I have been working at OLIVER Agency full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I haven't come across a bad person yet. Everyone actually knows what they're doing, so even when work can get stressful, it's only because there's a lot to do and not because you have to hold anyone's hand while they try to figure out what to do. Free candy/espresso every day, and every few days, cookies/donuts are brought in. Can work from home if you absolutely have to (although working in office is the...

    Cons

For some, the downtown location is a far commute, but office is close to subways. The office is on the small side, but they're apparently going to move to a bigger downtown office soon. Espresso offered, but not coffee, if you prefer coffee. Sometimes you have to work past 6 o'clock, without overtime, but that's just the nature of the marketing/studio field.

    Advice to Management

Do whatever you can to make sure we don't have to work past 6. Obviously, things can sometimes come up at the last minute, but if late nights can be avoided, a bunch of us would love that.

I worked at OLIVER Agency full-time

    Pros

The people are great as individuals, because you bond over the fact that you're all drowning with no support whatsoever

    Cons

The central team don't understand what you do at your respective site or how things work there and they don't want to understand it either. They make decisions which have negative consequences without listening to you when you explain why it would be detrimental to the account at your particular site. They pave over everything you've tried to explain and then you have to carry the burden of explaining to the client why...

    Advice to Management

Maybe listen?........You actually DON'T know better than the on site teams about what's best for that account.

I have been working at OLIVER Agency full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people. There's some really incredible people on the team. Everyone is great, that is, except the account leadership team and the PM.

    Cons

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT. The work is monotonous and uninspired. It's all templated. Quantity over quality. LOTS OF BURNOUT due to boring work. The vibe is that of misery. No room for growth. LOTS OF OFFICE POLITICS. Power hungry people who are not qualified to run their departments. BAD WORK/LIFE BALANCE. If you're a creative person who wants to push innovative boundaries, DO NOT COME TO THIS AGENCY.

    Advice to Management

Rethink it all. Do not call this a creative agency, this is a production shop. And calling it a production shop is even being nice. It's really a sweat shop.

    Pros

None. You are literally told to shut up and do the work

    Cons

Working with people who fear for their jobs, refuse to accept accountability and an environment that encourages other to cheat you out of anything possible, including your day rate and paying for a shuttle ($400/mth) AFTER they tell you're being paid hourly.

    Advice to Management

Don't tell people you'll get back to them, ghost them, and then call them and pretend you never spoke but you hire them anyway, because you're desperate for people. It's the reason they quit all the time, that and the horrible trip to nowhere they pay for.

I have been working at OLIVER Agency full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Paycheck. And also a paycheck. (I had to use 5 words minimum. Originally, it was just: Paycheck.)

    Cons

Dismal location and environment. Just a nondescript room with workstations, not even a reception area. When you open the door, big sigh of sadness. Just the sound of keyboards clicking and the zombielike stares of your co-workers at their screens, no "culture" or feeling like there's really a group. About as siloed as possible bc location is only for one client. You would not know you work for an agency and not for the...

    Advice to Management

Stop posting insanely obvious fake reviews (and thanking yourself for the compliment, nice touch). Please just stop. Time would be better spent figuring out how to give employees some stimulation and spring them from the bleak prison atmosphere. Advise new managers not to treat adults like bad children who need to be "productive" with their two seconds of down time. Really poisons an already not-so-healthy well. Did I...

I have been working at OLIVER Agency full-time for more than a year

    Pros

OLIVER has a non-traditional model where most employees sit on-site as integrated members of the client organization. It's the future of how many companies are going to want to work with agencies. Integrated, efficient, part of the family. It's not always easy to be on site, but gives you an opportunity to be their go-to partner. What's great about OLIVER is that they're not trying to be the everything agency. They're...

    Cons

Being on-site makes the company siloed. There aren't enough shared learnings or visibility into what's being done and done well across clients. People don't have much opportunity to move between clients. There isn't really and OLIVER culture, because it's all about being a client team.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on connecting the people across client teams. Find ways to make OLIVER feel like a connected company. Offer benefits that are unique and not just about what the clients offer. Help get the people out of the day-to-day client world. Find way for them to be independent and integrated.

    I worked at OLIVER Agency

    Pros

Can’t think of any, lousy office. You’ll be right be Trump tower if that’s your thing. Team was mainly freelancers.

    Cons

The ECD made it resoundingly clear of how little he rated strategy and planning. He’s since publicly expressed these views on LinkedIn. No idea why they hired me since they quickly showed active disdain for strategy as a whole.

    Advice to Management

If you’re going to try any hire a strategist again it might pay to actually value strategy as opposed to trying to pander to an old school ECD.

    Pros

The interesting business model itself attracts a lot of great talents and big clients, but the retention rate is questionable.

    Cons

Terrible benefits. Toxic culture. Miscommunications. Blame game. No respect for employees, and no respect among coworkers. No acklowledgement for hard works. Bombarding demeaning emails when something goes wrong. Inexperienced people in the managerial positions. Unorganized, ungrateful company.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees before flattering the client.
