  1. "Great! (But it's still an agency)"

I have been working at OMD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Omnicom is sort of the evil (okokok benevolent) empire of advertising, and with that comes access to a lot of resources (not only great accounts, but also seemingly limitless tools, trainings, and networking opportunities). As a working space, it's creative and fun, and they've started to make a more noticeable effort to invest in company culture (you sort of have to, in the Bay Area, or you lose your talent to start ups). As agency jobs go, I honestly do not think it gets much better.

    Cons

It's still an agency job, and that means: long hours, not-amazing pay (although maybe more competitive in the Bay Area than other places in the country). Also, if you want to work at a nimble agency where you do get to do everything yourself, this is not the agency for you. There is a vast network of teams that you work with in order to execute even the simplest of tasks. Consequently, you touch a lot, but own almost nothing.

I worked at OMD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free sbucks coffee from vendors, holiday breaks, good location, summer Fridays

    Cons

    - Extremely long hours specifically on the digital investment team - No sense of work life balance (if that is what you are looking for in a company this agency is not for you) - Terrible management, HR is not helpful if you seek help - Entry level salary is different depending on the account you are on, big workload for such low pay, if you work at this company the entry level positions are there to learn not to earn - Culture is extremely toxic, everyone is always gossiping about vendors and each other, feels like high school - Positions above assistant roles are extremely rude to the assistants (not respected whatsoever, feels like your being treated like a child) - Can't retain talent due to all the reasons above thus a very high turnover rate - Most people are either burned out or workaholics - Promotes people way to soon who are not ready to be a supervisor and actually manage people (teach your supervisors/AMDs how to effectively manage your team with RESPECT) - Vendor outings are fun but not when told they are mandatory (not okay)

    Advice to Management

    - allow employees to have a 1hr lunch break - allow employees the ability to work from home (actually work to create a sense of work life balance, it's not okay to be told to work on a Sunday or have to work until 8:30 on a Friday or even until 11pm on a normal business day... That is not okay) - Make the salary more competitive or will continue to lose talent

I have been working at OMD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn/be trained in all things media

    Cons

If you get stuck in a bad position/with a bad team, it can be really bad (long hours, zero work-life balance) OMD is very slow to promote or offer raises

I have been working at OMD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

My team is great but there are some that aren’t. When you interview ask about the team, work life balance and whether it’s a collaborative effort. If you sense stree already RUN. Remember that you have to interview the team too to see if it’s a right fit. This has by far been the best team I’ve worked for and our directors are amazing.

    Cons

During planning season there are long hours but that’s the norm for media and we now get paid over time soooo I’m good.

    Advice to Management

Some of these other teams are always stretched thin. Make your employees a priority so that they can actually put out good work instead of stressing.

I worked at OMD full-time for more than a year

    Pros

“Top Media Agency in the industry”- Can look good on a resume if you can sell it.

    Cons

It’s far from the top Media Agency in the industry. Depending on which account you end up your looking at long hours for very low pay in an extremely toxic working environment. No training at any level outside of some new technologies the firm introduces that become mandatory. High pressure work environment on large accounts with minimal technical support services.

    Advice to Management

Use your financial resources to invest in Human Capital. Training makes your employees have a stronger skill set which in turn makes them more valuable. Don’t delay the hiring process on large accounts. Teams with larger accounts have middle-Lower tier employees making bigger mistakes because they are managing too much on their plate. Promote from within and develop your employees through training programs.
