I worked at OMNOVA Solutions as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    GMs and CEO are great

    Cons

I was laid off, 2 weeks before H1B filing. I was left in no man's land

Was let go, two days after receiving accolades from senior management.

Never had a formal feedback. My boss was not present in the meeting when I was let go

Was judged harshly and my perspectives were never taken into account

    Advice to Management

Don't jeopardize someone's career. If you have promised H1B sponsorship then at least inform the candidate in advance that you will be letting him go. When you let me go 2 weeks before the H1B deadline, then I have nowhere to go.

You are judging someone's leadership skills without giving leadership responsibilities. Does not make sense.

Please note some of the senior management people are really good.

    Pros

They pay well with market standard benefits, but not that fantastic as this is heritage from predecessor. People are good to you when you are still useful to them.

    Cons

No proper IT system. Lots of manual work in this era. Products quality come out of different plant varies. New products mostly doesn't work except those heritage from Goodyears time. Lots of empty promises during hiring. They retrench people with little or no package by saying performance not met!

    Pros

Very nice people work there, but then next thing you know they are gone.

HQ is nice with nice collaboration spaces. If only people were there long enough to collaborate with.

    Cons

Huge, huge turnover rate in corporate HQ speaks for itself. Better than half of the people that moved to the new HQ are gone.

They talk a good game, but don't deliver.

You don't have the IT tools you need to get the job done. If you are good, you make your own tools, but really why would you want to when there are companies out there that will supply you with what you need.

Few managers tell you you did a good job. I actually had one tell me that they didn't need my input they were a director. Well, then you don't get my help either.

They keep increasing management layers and not increasing the number of employees that actually have to do the work. Lots of new VPs, Global Directors, Directors positions; same number of people to do the grunt work.

    Advice to Management

Might want to find out why people (lots of them) leave. Just google "why people leave companies" and then do some serious self-evaluation.

You need a 360 degree management review program. A number of your managers are really bad and there is no way to give feedback, so your best people leave.

There is no vision and mission, develop one and communicate it. That way your employees will know where they are going.

    Pros

They pay very well. And the health benefits are good.

    Cons

7 day swing shift is horrible. On top of that there is constant overtime because they can't keep employees. Management does not care about you or your home life. Not a place to work if you want or have a family.

    Advice to Management

Do away with the point and refusal system. And also the 7 day swing shift.

You get a paycheck every other week.

    Cons

    Cons

    Cons=Everything!
Expect 24x7 availability - 10-12 hour days not enough,
People quit, not replaced = work is spread around,
    Very stressful environment,
Old IT technology like 2003 Excel - joke

    Advice to Management

Stop greed at the top and overpaid senior leaders
Look at inefficient SAP systems at the plants with no useful reporting, cumbersome to use,
    No IT help at plants

I have been working at OMNOVA Solutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong middle management / director level / plant management. Dedicated, hard working employees.

    Cons

New HR destroyed culture quickly: HR leadership lack business savvy, are untrustworthy and incompetent. It can be argued that HR has created a hostile work environment in recent months.

Lack of accountability: The CEO does not hold the executive level accountable including himself.

The company has survived only due to the efforts of the director level and lower. These employees receive no leadership from the executive level.

Retirements of president, Jim Hohman, and CFO, Mike Hicks, eliminated any accountability or leadership at the executive level.

No work life balance: The employees work 60 plus hour weeks and continue to be squeezed to do more with less resources. It is never ending.

    Advice to Management

Accountability needs to start from the type down. Try to reestablish the strong leadership and culture of accountability. Reevaluate leadership at executive level. The company was willing to risk an increase in turnover to move to Beechwood but a significant number of the 25% of employees that have left are your higher performers you should be trying to retain.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    The pro is frequent cake.

    Cons

Strange, arrogant coworkers. Cold environment and very weird culture. Nobody has fun or is especially nice. Open concept workplace is terrible, no privacy. Hire for roles they don't need.

    Advice to Management

None, seems too far gone to change now.
