I have been working at ORIX USA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    • CEO and Executive Leadership have been highly proactive in the last 2 years to develop a company culture and identity that resonates with employees.
    • Re-allocation of resources and refocus of strategic directions have helped the Company grow dynamically since I joined … pretty significant investment in M&A in recent years underlines the strategic vision Leadership sees for the business. Strong organic growth.
    • Pretty talented people – very few inexperienced hires fresh out of school, most everyone is highly competent and can be trusted to provide an A-quality work product.
    • Highly unique financial services firm relative to what else is located in Dallas (Corporate HQ). Being the US subsidiary of a Tokyo-based PubCo provides the sophistication of a Fortune 100 heavyweight but a ‘mid-size company’ feel. Good presence in East Coast and West Coast.
    • Work is always interesting … very few days in the office I find myself bored or working on dull assignments. Very steady deal flow always means new projects are coming across my desk.
    • Really well funded charity/foundation that gives back to the community. Strong employee involvement.

    Cons

    • A lot of employees’ perspectives here are colored by who their business unit leader is; some business unit leaders seem to go to bat for their employees more than others.
    • It is difficult to make sense of compensation for a given level – top performers may not necessarily be the highest earners in their peer group. Greater transparency needed here.
    • Company doesn’t have your classic IB or public accounting ‘structure’ – so the path to upward advancement and career milestones isn’t always very clear.

    Advice to Management

    • Back-office staff could use more resources to keep up with Company growth. Need to balance growth with internal reinvestment to provide the best chances for successful integrations in the future.
    • Frame out what a career at ORIX looks like – communicate that structure to promising employees that you have an interest in grooming for future leadership roles.

I have been working at ORIX USA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Depends on team, but a lot of freedom give (if you are doing your job).

    Cons

    - Depends on team but besides the c-suite level, managers tend to be weak as most of them lack proper management skills (experience as well).
    - Lacks business strategy.

    Advice to Management

Need to put in a proper management system. Can't have unqualified people as Senior MDs, or MDs. Too unorganized, lacks strategy.

I worked at ORIX USA full-time

    Pros

It was a decent place to work. Management was pretty good and it had a small firm feel to it with opportunity for growth.

    Cons

Work load was heavy, employees spread too thin.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more help.

I worked at ORIX USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good pay, good bonuses depending on your top boss, good and smart non manager employees who do the work. Good C-Suite level for the most part.

    Cons

They promote people based on their credentials instead of their abilities, which makes for insecure and poor managers.

    Advice to Management

Reward the non-manager employees because those are the employees who do the actual work. Let the employees rate their manager instead of just assuming the managers are good at managing.

I have been working at ORIX USA part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Japanese company called Orix is trying to expand by coming over to the United States of America. It is a necessary step for Orix if they really want to globalize.

    Cons

Con is that Japanese workers get paid less than american workers even if they are in the same position. Not fair for workers in that case.

    Advice to Management

Treat all workers equally, especially in terms of how much they get paid. Otherwise, it is a great company that is trying to expand and get bigger.
