I have been working at OTIS full-time

    Pros

The new CEO's vision of a dependable, customer-centric company that continually transforms the business to meet the next generation of challenges is inspiring. The company values of Trust, Integrity, Excellence, Innovation and Respect guide the conduct of employees at all levels of the organization.

    Cons

As an established and respected industrial company, some leaders and employees have struggled to adapt to the changing business landscape. I believe the new leadership is turning us in the right direction, but we have a lot of work to do.

    Advice to Management

For those that miss the good old days, let it go. Don't be afraid to take a chance on your people. Give them more responsibility and cut bureaucracy. Your people are incredible.

    Pros

Otis is a company with a long legacy that is transforming to future proof the business. The is a very strong family culture with a sincere pride in what we do. Smart and driven employees with lots of opportunities for development.

    Cons

The transformation of the business and the systems we use can be taxing. Lots of change, and there can never be enough communication. It's worth the effort, but will take breaking down of current silos within the business to get to the end results we desire.

    Advice to Management

Continue to remove layers of approvals and encourage ownership and collaboration.

I have been working at OTIS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

UTC stock option plan for executives may lead to good awards if held and exercised wisely. Otis has solid history and international presence and is and has been a leader for many decades, although this is changing fast.

    Cons

There was leadership take over from sister company from sister company Carrier which resulted in the departure of many prominent Otis executives

    Advice to Management

Engineering community needs to drive change starting with essential product offerings. Delegation of this task to the China based factories will not lead to the change that is urgently required at Otis.

I have been working at OTIS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay above average; company picnics; monthly birthday cake; great health insurance; GREAT people; like a 2nd family. Supportive & accessible HR. Company follows a Six-Sigma like operating system. Very generous PTO (you can purchase extra vacation days!) Excellent tuition reimbursement program. Annual employee survey where Otis takes feedback from its people and forms action plans to improve the culture- they then follow through with progress on the action plans. Job/skills training offered to employees. Senior management is engaged with employees of all levels and everyone from Ethics to HR are usually willing to lend an ear- that’s one of the best things about working for Otis is you know as an employee the company truly cares about its people and wants all to be positive and productive. If you are lucky enough to get in here, it’s a company that most will want to work at until they retire. Otis is big on developing talent and promoting from within as well.

    Cons

Depending on your department, there can be many meetings daily (more than the norm)where often no decisions are made- this can be very frustrating. No clear expectations in some groups/departments; very loose guidelines on exactly what your responsibilities are. Again, depends on who you work for in terms of supervisor or manager.

    Advice to Management

Have 1:1s regularly with your people (aside from annual reviews) to solicit and give feedback.
