I have been working at OTIS full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Health benefits, competitive commission structure compared to other elevator companies, autonomy in the role.

    Cons

Technology (or lack thereof), internal applications and intranet leaves tons to be desired, very limited support from HQ to local offices.

    Advice to Management

Outsource technology improvements. Having elevator people plan these things begs for disaster. Commit to more internal support for local branches

I worked at OTIS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible with any "emergencies" you may have or things you need to get done during work hours. Excellent tuition reimbursement, great benefits, amazing vacation/sick time. Your vacation/sick time increases after 5 years which is nice.

    Cons

Too many different job duties assigned to one person. Management is always changing things around which creates disorder

    Advice to Management

Laying off people and redistributing loads of work doesn't always work out. Someone doing A/P shouldn't have to worry about mechanics for example.

I worked at OTIS (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Due to the diverse line of business you can jump into several companies with the UTC umbrella.

    Cons

Big company, constant changes.. Without the position you have being under a union, the workers has more responsibility to pay attention to changes that are made which may lead to job cuts.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally. Help motivate workers and they will work harder for you.

I have been working at OTIS (More than a year)

    Pros

    Stable company.
    Terrific tuition reimbursement program.
    Good benefits.

    Cons

Restructuring and sending administrative duties to central location caused layoffs of several administrative workers across the country.
Administrative workers did not receive bonuses but pushed through a lot of the paperwork to assist other coworkers that did receive IC.

I worked at OTIS full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Godd Facility, decent contract pay

    Cons

Management didn't seem prepared for onboarding the IE's and putting them to useful work. We did makework at first, then eventually did relevant work. The focus and direction didn't seem to be their for the Otis Management.,

    Advice to Management

Take control of the shop labor and get a better understanding of the company's direction. Keep to the spirit of the contracts you make with contractors. We were released earlier than the contracts we held.
