I worked at Oakwood Village (More than a year)

    Pros

The people Oakwood serves are wonderful, and the staff do their best to support all the needs. Great locations and facilities.

    Cons

Lack of focus, direction and communication from the top. Change averse. A lot of young staff with a 'job' and clinical staff burnout that leads to high turn over.

    Advice to Management

Don't second guess one another. Work on a strategic plan and execute, and revisit often. Support and invest in your staff.

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Friendly staff. There is almost always a need for more hours, if you're willing to work them. Part time shift is short, so easily doable for students after school.

    Cons

Sometime getting certain days off can be difficult due to seniority. Easy to take advantage of the call in sick system.

I have been working at Oakwood Village full-time

    Pros

    Good benefits, residents are great.

    Cons

Management is always in meetings and never interacting with residents. More about marketing than the residents.

    Advice to Management

Communicate and respect other staff. Spend time with residents.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

The patients and staff were mostly nice to work with. The facility is clean and a safe place to work.

    Cons

The management team could be better. It is hard to improve on basic needs when there isn't any money to do so. The attrition rate has to be a concern. I know there are a number of low paying jobs in food service and housekeeping but seasoned staff leave, that should be a red flag.

    Advice to Management

Change your style. Authoritarian style only works with some people some of the times. There has to be some flexability to work with people of different skills and abilities.
