I worked at Obama For America part-time

    Pros

Great insight on how the campaign works for a volunteer perspective

    Cons

Lavishly unrealistic demands, quotas that were expected. You were shunned if you didn't meet them. It was about quantity not quality.

    Pros

Worked with good people. My state director was wonderful. I made some connections for the future.

    Cons

Like many organizing jobs the pay was not great and the hours too long. The contract was for only 3 months, which felt like not enough time to accomplish the program goals, and it was a constant scramble.

    Advice to Management

    Managers were great.

    Loved every minute; great experience.

    Cons

Sorry it had to end; although glad it ended with the election of President Obama.

    Pros

This group was like a family. Grateful to have been in the trenches with the best of the best.

    Cons

Anybody who gets involved in a political campaign learns quickly that it's hard work and long hours. Totally worth it though!

I worked at Obama For America (More than a year)

    Pros

Best time of my life, and one of my most proud achievements. Got to work with really great people and the growth opportunity was incredible for anyone willing to put the time in.

    Cons

Like all campaign jobs, be ready to sacrifice your personal life. That's just part of the territory. Pay could have been better too, but that's to be expected as well.

    Pros

it was an awesome experience. People were wonderful, helpful and passionate. It was a great experience. Long hours, but it didn't matter, the time flew by.

    Cons

no cons......we won!! There was a system upgrade that was not as smooth as it could have been. I was involved in the IT support, it did make it hard for the volunteer callers, but we powered through

I worked at Obama For America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I felt like I was part of something that mattered. The work was very rewarding and the people were great to work with. They helped employees get jobs after the campaign was over.

    Cons

60-70 hours per week. It was temporary, so it felt manageable. The payroll service was a little bit unorganized.

    Advice to Management

Organize your payroll so people can get paid. HR took a long time to get my ID processed and communication was tough.
