I worked at Ocado Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    – people are really familiar with the overall goal of the product, and whole organisation – recruitment process is about both tech and soft skills, it's really hard to find unfriendly colleague in there – company is open to internal initiatives – autonomy is a big deal for teams – office is really, really nice

    Cons

    – it might be hard for you if you want to just code and go home – best ice cream in Krakow are fairly close to the office, it's hard to stay fit

I worked at Ocado Technology full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A friendly culture and good group of people. Fast growing which brings changes and opportunity. Supportive management. Tech Finance expertise is in general a good atmosphere. A grad programme that runs at the heart of the company. Aims of becoming better business partners will hopefully bring success. Tech business partners, that despite being too busy do in general want finance engagement.

    Cons

Fast growth brings expected growing pains of quickly changing priorities. Unstable repetitive processes (could be seen as an opportunity!) Lack of flexible working.

    Advice to Management

Finance flexible working needs to get with the times, it's a different standard to the rest of the organisation and the strict in office 9-6 regime is no longer the norm.

I have been working at Ocado Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nice looking offices, canteen food is ok.

    Cons

The working environment is incredibly noisy. If you are an engineer and need a place to concentrate, well, there aren't any. They promote collaboration at the cost of productivity and believe that throwing more people at the problem will solve it. Some projects take way, way longer than necessary because of the lack of a central knowledge portal - very little in the way to promote self-sufficiency when needed. Teams... are autonomous in nature which means that there is no one way of doing things. There is not sufficient parking on-site to cope - some people are parking 20 minutes away and walking in, which adds 40min onto your commute. There are no bonuses. Salary is up to 40% below some equivalent jobs in London. Career path for senior devs means doing interviews, strategic planning and mentoring - basically not much development time, which is contrary to the engineering pathway that is sold to you. Critical illness is not covered in their health package.

    Advice to Management

Take 40% of the existing staff that are crammed into Trident place and move them to another building. You are putting employee health second to the growth of the business. Introduce performance related bonuses. Include critical illness in the health package. Have some, large, dedicated quiet working spaces.

I have been working at Ocado Technology full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - smart and friendly colleagues - company is investing in interesting technologies (vertical farming, automation, etc) - opportunity to work on a product at scale - free fruit - free safari online subscription + conferences (if you don't get your request rejected) - company seems to be doing well with a lot of deals signed recently and growing a lot - possibility to change teams

    Cons

    - people team do not help or care even though they spend an hour explaining to newcomers that they help for everything - you have to chase HR a long time in order to get any answer/legal document - too few toilets, they are always full and seldom clean - code quality is disastrous in Ocean (legacy product) and mediocre in OSP (new product) - impossible to work remotely so everyone lies about having doctor... appointments or waiting for deliveries to "justify" working from home - no career growth if you are shy as working outside your team is the only thing that is valued to get promoted - SE4 (highest grade for Software Engineer) is impossible to attain unless you work in the platform team - Social event only happens once every two months and you would be lucky to get a slice of pizza and a beer as there is not enough for everyone - No time is given to improve code or processes - low salary compared to London - if you are unlucky enough to end up in Ocean (legacy product) your career will take a massive hit as technologies and processes are outdated and code quality is abysmal. Management too is outdated in Ocean. - graduate recruits are lured in with promises of working on the new platform with microservices but are then told that there is no room and sent to Ocean - free instant coffee is not good - high turnover
