I have been working at Ocala Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The job itself is good, I enjoy it but would no matter where I work. The majority of the staff are great there are always a couple troublemakers.

    Cons

management is top heavy more team leaders that regular staff. the team leads don't share the same work load as the staff nurses and are not held to the same obligations. terribly clicky.

    Advice to Management

be fair don't pick favorites make your own opinions and don't judge people before you meet them

I have been working at Ocala Health as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay for contract nurses.

    Cons

Lateral violence runs rampant among the nursing staff in the ER. Management allows it and does nothing to stop it. HCA has a zero tolerance for it but if it's not recognized then it will continue like the diseases that we treat!!!

    Advice to Management

When someone comes to you and tells you that there is lateral violence in the ER ... DO SOMETHING. It's no wonder that you need travel nurses to fill your short staffing and no one but brand new grads want to work there!!!

I have been working at Ocala Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Solidarity with the workforce is awesome. We're like a big family. It's the only thing that keeps me coming back. The company is expanding and is all about the money, so buying their stock is beneficial.

    Cons

Consistently understaffed for the workload, to the point of being dangerous for patients and our licenses. Administrators refuse to go on divert, even when we have multiple critical patients waiting in the lobby and nearly a dozen ambulances waiting for beds. The company has systematically cut wages back over and over until they have driven experienced nurses away and can only keep the new grads because they don't have options. The continuous falsification of the wait time should be criminal. Patients sign in to a kiosk and the triage nurse moves their name over to register them, even if 10 people walk through the doors in 5 minutes. The PA or ARNP in triage is required by management to "click" on the patient to indicate he/she has greeted them, but they really don't get in to triage for 30-45 minutes and either they may have given up and left or they get a medical interview by the PA/ARNP and get put back in the lobby for either minutes or 12 hours, but the billboard still says there is a five minute wait. And if there is a trauma, or even multiple traumas, there is not enough staff to care for the traumas and the ED patients.

    Advice to Management

Make clinical ladder more manageable and attainable; return to percentages for differentials, not a flat rate; acknowledge ideas that are implemented; make the billboard tell the truth about the wait time.

I worked at Ocala Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The co-workers were supportive of each other.

    Cons

Management is all about the HCAPS and money. They are not supportive of safety with patient overload and do not back up the staff. Risk management looks for ways to put blame on someone if there is a complaint. I never felt like concerns that nurses had were addressed. They are constantly pushing nurses to the limit.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee satisfaction instead of pushing numbers. Increase support staff.
