    Pros

Great members, adorable children, and an overall fun place to work for the summer.

I have been working at Ocean Reef Club full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This place has a fantastic opportunity for growth. The money is great, and the members you work for are great as well.

    Cons

The summer is brutal. The weather is unbearable and the business is terribly slow. The mosquitos are the worst part.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. This Club is a well oiled machine from top to bottom. Its no surprise that most associates at Ocean Reef Club spend most of their career there. It is so difficult to find a better place to be.

    Pros

It's hot and humid. It's beautiful, but you don't get to partake in any of it. They even have side entrances for the help.

    Cons

The pay is terrible, unless you are in upper management. I worked at the beach bar as a bartender, and it was a it pool that includes every bartender in the whole resort, the cocktail servers, the banquet servers, and the managers and supervisors. YEP! The managers get a share of your tips. How much, it's hard to say, because you will never know exactly how badly they are screwing you over, but considering my average pay after taxes and rent was $50 a day, they must take a lot!!! I put in my two weeks, and was told to leave in 2 days and that I was not allowed to work my last two weeks. I guess they do that all the time. My suggestion, if you are dumb enough to work here, just bolt in the night, or you will get screwed. The managers are incompetent and crazy. Micromanagement is their style, and it will drive you crazy. I spent more money to move and start this job than I made in 6 weeks. I can't say enough about how bad it is. And yet, some people here are happy to make $12 an hour. Most workers are poor and black, and I think that that is how the management likes it. They don't know how badly they are getting screwed, and they have no options. Jamaicans and Haitians mostly. It's really sad, and creates a creepy feeling that these "have nots" are serving all these "haves" and with a big smile on their faces, and the whole lot love it. Disgusting.

    Advice to Management

Quit. You are awful and there is no help for you.

    Pros

Great climate to work in and top pay scale for the area. Great team of people from all over the world.

    Cons

Cost of living is high in the Keys and there is a strong seasonal influence which affects the work demands on the staff.

    Advice to Management

Develop a work environment which reduces the top-down approach to authority.

    Pros

ORC has a vast array of employment opportunities. Everything from entry level to the highest level professional roles. The pay is commissary with the positions and there is growth potential in most departments and areas

    Cons

This is a very political environment. It is necessary to tread lightly within an organization like this as there are so many views and agendas by middle to upper management and a board of directions that changes every 18 months along with the clubs direction due to the change.

    Advice to Management

ORC talks about the "bottom up" management culture and "Coach and Council" to set people up for success. This is not necessarily the case. It would be in ORC best interest if the culture and its action plan matched to reality of the situation. There is some amazing staff and skill sets at ORC. Let them do their job and they will take this organization to a whole new level.
