    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Recognizes hard work. Encourages the opportunities you make for yourself.

    Cons

I have no clue if i am going to have a job tomorrow.

    Advice to Management

More transparency. Also, just some advice for the OS person replying....you are coming off very defensive and rude. You used the word "misleading" on almost every negative review. It could make readers of this believe that you are the misleading one. Not the other way around.

    Pros

Competitive pay. Nice co workers .

    Cons

New management has changed the morale of the company due to their arrogance and demanding of control of all aspects. Company used to have good management structure and family feel to company.

    Advice to Management

The Board and Owners need to put back the old style of the management of the company. Current executives are going to be the downfall.

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working for the family growers, it's their livelihood and "ups" the motivation to keep the business going

    Cons

Focus appears to be on creating buzz around Boston office and attracting Millennials versus dealing with a business in crisis. CEO says goal is "food as medicine". Food is culture, love, and joy! When we turn food into medicine and cultivate an “eat to live” mentality, we remove everything else from food. If we pretend that food is just nutrients or a means to heal disease, we erase memories, celebrations, and...

    Advice to Management

As mentioned in several reviews, company is practically on life support. "Food as medicine" will not turnaround the business. If that's the new strategy, sounds like "lights out". Setting up an office in Boston and calling it Lighthouse is just a distraction to act like company is doing well. Some jobs have been open for almost a year, moving to Boston will not help. Advice to management - develop a long term strategy...

Thanks for commenting. We couldn’t agree with you more—food is culture, love, joy and so many other things—including medicine for the soul. What we need to reframe here is that “food is medicine” is not a strategy, it’s a part of our destination as a cooperative—a way of thinking ...

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The quality of some of the people. Most have been let go due to poor leadership. The renovated building is really nice as well.

    Cons

The absolute disgusting culture new management has created. It is very telling when your CEO goes in-front of the company and tells everyone to fight the competition and stop fighting with each other. Or the companies leaders refuse to release the results of a company wide survey because they performed so low, they didn't want to shame the leaders with their results. It has become a very morbid and painful environment...

    Advice to Management

Stop gathering everyone together 2 times a month to "talk" only to sit there and preach to everyone how amazing you are. No one is buying it anymore. Change has become a buzzword that almost immediately indicates management trying to cover up their failure to properly lead.

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

People are fantastic - both enjoyable to work with and motivated to support the brand and company growth objectives. Many employees become close friends with their colleagues which shows the type of team-bond that exists! Growth potential for future - the company is morphing and evolving into a progressive health & wellness company. Awesome to be involved at the "beginning" stages of this transformation

    Cons

With evolution and transformation comes rapid change and transition - if that does not appeal to you, this would not be the ideal work environment for you.

I have been working at Ocean Spray full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Similar to all reviews, working for family farmers and the people

    Cons

In Feb 2018, the consensus was it couldn't get worse. But now it has. The main strategy now seems to be replacing employees. How about replacing Leadership?

    Advice to Management

What is going on here? Hopefully, the Board is reading these posts. Everyday, more employees continue to post about the dismal situation of the company. There are serious problems. Letting go of several Directors to avoid paying LTI won't help much. Deferring expenses to make the number for a bonus payout is a farce. Time is nearly up, who is going to step up and develop the business strategy and improve morale as...

I worked at Ocean Spray full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-The people are the heart and soul of the company and most are talented, hard-working, and enjoyable to work with. I made many friendships at Ocean Spray that I expect will last a lifetime. -Working for a farmer-owned cooperative gives a sense of purpose not found at other corporate companies, however, since the new leadership team took over the interaction and connection with grower-owners has decreased significantly....

    Cons

Working at Ocean Spray taught me what to watch out for with future employers. During my time there, the company underwent a complete leadership turnover, multiple re-orgs, and several rounds of layoffs. While the changes initially seemed positive and geared at turning around a declining business, the new leadership has retained many of the issues from the ‘old Ocean Spray’ and changed the culture to a cut-throat, fear...

    Advice to Management

Prioritize supporting employees and creating a culture that is enjoyable to work at. The company is full of smart and driven people that are capable of turning the business around if given a supportive environment rather than one driven by fear. Empower employees to make the decisions necessary to get the job done to stop all of the back-tracking and wasted time on project teams. Be transparent! Trust in leadership...

I worked at Ocean Spray full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Working for farmers made you feel good about what you were doing. More recently it seems like the farmers are just like major shareholders of any US company - looking for more money, looking for quick rewards, and don't really care about the people who have had made them successful for so many years. It is very sad how quickly this farmer's cooperative has turned.

    Cons

A new CEO was brought in to prepare the company for a sale. There have been about 6-7 rounds of reductions in staff that have taken place in the past 18 months. The CEO is the smartest guy in the room and makes sure that you know it, they just moved the sales and marketing teams from the South Coast to Boston without providing any resources to long term employees who needed to make the transition many who live in...

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing . Lowering expenses, getting rid of high cost employees, continue to outsource key functions, selling off assets. Streamline, streamline, streamline. You should be acquired within a year. Short term gains for your US farmers will be great. Most will sell off their land for development in the long term and finally be done with farming.
