I worked at Oceaneering International as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Thoroughly enjoyed my summer interning with OPG's Shell Projects Team (Oilfield Projects Group) at Oceaneering. Was able to attend a mobilization in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, where I received valuable field experience. Treated very professionally on vessel even though I was an intern.

Numerous intern events, ranging from social to educational and philanthropic. Met and presented the work I did over the summer to the higher-ups of the company.

    Cons

Much more drafting than original engineering. Because I was on the Shell Projects Team, there is a lot of repetitive equipment used over the course of the years. This leads to referencing old drawings and adapting them to your situation, which generally doesn't require much thought/original engineering. Only seen as a con because, though very efficient, work can get repetitive and redundant. This could also be a result of being given simpler tasks because of my status as an intern.

Sometimes this is a good thing, though. Personally, I got a little tired of AutoCAD by the end of the summer, but my AutoCAD skills vastly improved.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work with the intern program! Invite interns to more "lunch and learns", even from different groups. Organize Oceaneering social events, intramural teams, etc. between groups!
