Culture has a long way to go
Oct 28, 2020 - Quality Manager in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Oceaneering almost always has opportunities, and if you get into the right areas, opportunities for growth. There are many different divisions with wildly diverse applications, so there is something for almost any job seeker as long as you aren't set on one geographical location.
Cons
The main thing is the the many of the divisions, especially the oil and gas side, have a very old culture with a cowboy attitude of getting stuff done and throwing out the requirements/processes when it suits them. Some of the segments are better about this than others. The company as a whole grew from a diving company to what it is today. That legacy sort of permeates the company. Though they have made lots of changes, there is a long way to go to what I would call a healthy culture. The downturn in the oil and gas industry has not been kind to this company since much of their income is based on oil and gas exploration. Low price of oil means no significant business opportunities and more stress on the organization.

Pros
Good company with a lot of changes in progress to align with the market and competitors. Could be described as a small big company.
Cons
I would recommend hiring people with direct experience in oil and gas, specifically subsea. There were a lot of people who just did not know what they were doing until several years after being employed.

Pros
Diverse company, great people culture. Lots of opportunity to work on different projects and never get bored. Many hard working people who really get things done.
Cons
Not faring too well during downturn in oil gas business, upper management losing sight of employees that matter. Low morale.
