    Pros

None. No seriously, there are none. I have to have 20 words here so this is basically filler. This is an awful company to work for.

    Cons

Very little training and management that is completely out of touch. I had an upper level management person ask me how he should be doing his job. How he ever got into that position I will never know.

    Advice to Management

Get with the program, start listening to the needs of your employees and maybe you wouldn't have such a high turnover rate. Human resources is completely out of touch with the reality of the work that staff does

I worked at Oconomowoc Residential Programs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The children and base level staff that actually do their jobs. Very team oriented and great way to experience the darker parts of the special needs population.

    Cons

The upper level management could care less about the kids if their parents aren't calling every day. Kids that are wards of the state or have limited parental involvement are overlooked by everyone that had any real control over their care. Those that work their butts off and receive broken bones trying to relate to these kids are viewed as lesser and unimportant. As the staff actually doing the work and spending 16 hour days with kids that beat the crap out of you, you are completely replaceable and unnecessary to make them the most money possible. The previous principal was the only one that cared and he left because, SURPRISE, no one else cares. Give your heart and soul to this job and they will suck out what little motivation and compassion you have left.

    Advice to Management

Change everything about your process and listen to the employees that know the kids. You will NEVER understand the kids sitting in meetings and judging what the staff does to help their kids. Direct staff produce results and are judged by the clinical coordinators that wouldn't know the kids names if they weren't written down on paper. Don't treat your base staff like crap and maybe you'll retain the strong staff that you have. Continue to let the clinical destroy the progress of the wards of the state that they literally don't acknowledge. Horrible horrible management that honestly hurts the kids. The definition of neglect by the only people capable of enforcing change

I worked at Oconomowoc Residential Programs (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Last resort for kids that no school district/parent wants to deal with.

    Cons

Not far from the institutions of the last century. The company is for-profit, so money never trickles down to the students or staff that actually work with the kids. Always understaffed and overworked. Mandatory overtime. Teachers take shift work to cover for lack of staff and low pay. Safety is a big concern. At least 5 years behind the times on approaches to dealing with autism. Modern technology consists of 1 ipad per class, smartboards in a few classrooms. One computer lab that is always in need of repairs.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your office and go into the classroom.

    Pros

Helping & building relationships with the developmentally and emotionally disabled is very rewarding.

    Cons

Front line workers at genesee lake are look down on by supervisors at higher levels. Some supervisors don't have the clients in their best interest. Many supervisors are very lazy. There was a lot of client abuse when I was there, but not on all units. It was frowned upon to report abuse. Ppoor workplace mentality overall.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the kids you are responsible for are being treated the way you would want your loved ones treated.
