I worked at Office Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a good company work ethic and customer centered environment. They worked with my college schedule and made sure I was off every week for my church functions.

    Cons

Management was harsh and so sales driven, that the manager was detached from the employees reality. Pay was too low for sales pressure that was too low.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees according to their technical skill and focus on building customer relationships instead of reading from a cold, impersonal script.

    Pros

It's a pretty chill place to work if you're looking for a part time job. It's been about 3 or 4 years since I've worked there so I don't know much about how the company is doing or how things have changed. It's retail so you have to be prepared to work weekends, deal with irritable people, and certain times of year are really busy. The people you work with more than likely understand the struggle of retail so it is easy to relate.

    Cons

When I worked there they were working with some change agents to help improve their company and there was a bit of micromanaging from the corporate office which could get annoying. Besides that it wasn't bad for a retail job.

    Advice to Management

    Just be cool about it.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1) New manager gives breaks and lunches on time
    2) Decent pay
    3) Flexible work schedules. They were willing to make my shifts around my class times.

    Cons

    1) Old manager didn't give breaks and lunches on time
    2) Managers seem change frequently
    3) BTS (back-to-school) is Office Depot's Black Friday; major sales and hordes of customers.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees to get them to work harder. Make your workplace a joy to be in so that your employees will gladly come in to work.

    Pros

The hours are flexible, the staff can be the best part of the job, and there are always interesting customers to interact with!

    Cons

Management can be the downfall at any company when it seems they only care about the bottom line, rather than truly trying to assist customers.

    Advice to Management

Take away commission from warranty services and try to see what the customer actually wants.

    Pros

This was a great experience for a first time job when in high school and first year in college. Learned a lot about how a retail store is run and is managed.

    Cons

There were not enough employees and work load became tedious after a while. I would be working 10 to 14 hour shifts with only a 30 minute break to sit with one other employee.

    Advice to Management

    Hire more people

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours , meet some cool people, learn a bit of printers and computers.

    Cons

Multi tasking, low pay, demand a lot , no breaks!

    Advice to Management

Actually train new hires instead of just throwing them out clueless. Give breaks more and understand that you can only ask so much from each employee.
