I worked at Office Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Assigned work was clear. Opportunities for growth and learning, as well as responsibility if you want it. Plenty of changes to talk to people. Depending on the store, it's a very fast-paced workplace, which I loved.

    Cons

I want to be clear before you read the cons: I loved this job, and very much appreciate my time at OD. However, that doesn't mean it was a good job.

Pay is not good. Almost no chance of advancement. My store manager wouldn't advance me to a department manager position because it meant I had to leave his store, and he felt I was too valuable where I was.

At the management level, there were a lot of politics getting in the way of the store running properly. Managers were being blamed for things that weren't their fault. Employees were being targeted as scapegoats for why things went wrong in their respective departments.

Occasionally, I had to close one day, and open the next morning. My store closed at 9 PM, which meant we left around 10. Then I had to come in at 7 AM the next day. In general, schedules were not set from one week to the next, and generally the schedule wasn't posted until Friday for the next week. There were a couple times it wasn't finished until Sunday, which got people in trouble when they assumed they would follow the same schedule as the week before.
