I have been working at Office Depot full-time

    Pros

Work independently from home office. Given large book of business with plenty of opportunity. Good working culture. Reasonable targets and goals.

    Cons

Supply chain issues (3rd party vendor products may not ever show up to customer). Lacked properly staffed customer support and billing support, and most was non US based support teams.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great Co-workers
Slower-Paced Retail, more business savvy customers who know what they need
Rewards System - 2% Back on Everything (Competes with Staples)
    Competitor Price Matching
Less Pressure from Management than previous employers
Reasonable Expectations, Skill Building, Product Knowledge Training, Cross Training (for most associates)
Employee discounts - new 10 (tech) - 20 (supplies) - 30 percent (services) discounts across the board
    Pay raises every few months
    Paid time off accrues automatically
Spiffs on certain products and commission - if you are full time
Good part time job (for students or second job)
Okay full time job (for management - few full time associates)

    Cons

Aging store chain that needs to catch up to online retail and make their stores more engaging, focused and interactive
Company has an uncertain future and is not immune to the woes of retail
High markups on many products to "pay" for rewards program (200-1000% on some!) causes sticker shock for many customers
One of the FEW stores in retail to not offer holiday pay or bonuses
Tax Season, Holidays, and Back to School times are VERY busy
Weekends are hectic with ad-set, customers, and inventory tasks
    Inconsistent Scheduling and Staffing
    Inconsistent Pay (see above)

    Advice to Management

Recognize every employee's efforts, treat the customer with the utmost respect, and be open in all lines of communication.
Be an ambassador for the company, an advocate for the associate, and a friend to every customer. These relationships matter, and drive future business. That's what brings people in from our competitors and keeps our loyal customers coming back.
Make the job fun and professional. It can be done.
Most importantly, take care of business.
