    Pros

In comparing the 3 big office supply retailers, the retirement benefits, time off, and health care are competitive and/or exceed the competition.

    Cons

There are not any real downsides to working with Office Depot in the Kansas City area. Staples just moved into the market so it could get harder to bonus from year over year sales growth. I feel that in a couple of years however it will become easier to bonus with the trends of competition factored in and the great possibility that Office Max in the Kansas City Area will start to consolidate operations and close some of their locations.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to take a page from Office Max and really start to place emphasis on Design, Print, and Ship services. There is a huge growth potential in that business and is the primary driver for Office Max's success.

    Pros

Growth Opportunity...Challange...Chance to prove yourself in a competitive market.
There are also great managers in place to answer any questions you may have.

    Cons

The onboarding process is a little slow and the learning curve is steep. It will take at least a year to fully understand how to handle most customer complaints.

    Advice to Management

Under the current circumstances they are doing a great job...no one really understands what it takes to make a profitable company in these times. I would however suggest that when bringing aboard new hires they focus a little more on systems training and a little less on sales training.

    Pros

the store mamanger is great, encourgaing, lots of room for advancement if you fight for it and really show your interested... howver this is not allways the case at all stores.

    Cons

i get pulled around alot, form department to department... and because so much is expected from me the things i do above and beyond others goes unnoticed...

    Advice to Management

dont get blinded by emotions... and if you say good job to one person for lets say a good sell then say it to the next person for the same thing... even if it is "there job"

    Pros

The company does a great job of keeping employees in the loop with news, changes, etc. They encourage employees to share ideas to improve company performance and they actually listen to the ideas that are presented. Meetings between officers and staff are held regularly in order to promote openness and keep the lines of communication open. The company also takes the time to encourage a balance between work and personal life. An example is that when Office Depot moved into its new headquarters in Boca Raton, it included a gym/wellness center for employees. Although times are tough with the economy, the company lets employees know that their work is appreciated.

    Cons

Morale is low due to the challenging economy.

    Advice to Management

Keep encouraging employees to be engaged and involved.

    Pros

They take of their employees with great benefits. Managers are willing to listen to new ideas and co exist without feeling like one is better than the other.

    Cons

The company is in danger in these tough economic times so your job might not be secure. As a store that caters to small businesses the downturn in the economy has only made it worse since the smaller stores are closing and customers are thinning out. Too many planogram changes tend to bog down workers.

    Advice to Management

Work with the store and assistant managers to set better goals and make jobs efficient to better serve the customers.

    Pros

Very flexible to work with. They were very flexible and easy to work with if you gave them ample notice of upcoming things or events in your life. Employee discount.

    Cons

Hours could be cut at any time. Almost always had to work weekends, unless you had been there for five plus years. Had to be dedicated to working evenings and not knowing what your work schedule would be until a week or two before hand.

    Advice to Management

Don't overwork you lower management. You should pay your management better for the numerous hours that they dedicate to the job.
