I have been working at Office Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good and fair management that sticks up for you and you develop friendships with your coworkers. Sometimes people bring their dogs in.

    Cons

The customers are awful. They will try to make you cry. They are always impatient and angry so you just have to learn to bite your tongue and wear a fake smile. People will still be rude to you but at least they cant write a bad review of you because you were trying to be as nice and helpful as possible.

I have been working at Office Depot (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People very professional, knowledgeable and work well as a team. Co workers willing to help if you need it. Always busy days go by quickly

    Cons

Becoming micro managed environment. Your phone activities are being listen to without your knowledge. You must indicate your availability via computer program. You must explain what your status is and what your working on. Become more of Call center environment leaving no time to do your core responsibilities

    Advice to Management

Let us work directly with Production.
Eliminate retail calls routed to a highly specialized Customer Service Team.
There is no benefit routing calls that don't belong to us. Wasted customer experience by routing and rerouting call giving customers run a round when they call company

I worked at Office Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was nice to be able to learn how to edit and modify documents to fit all sorts of needs. It was also nice to learn from the tech guys while there to be able to diagnose problems with computers.

    Cons

Management could not seem to ever get on the same page. There was also a problem among the copy and print associates not knowing how to group and bid large projects. There was also a time where we didn't have a department manager to oversee and organize everything going on.

    Advice to Management

Try to have a more positive attitude and encourage employees to enjoy the work.

I have been working at Office Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Good place to learn retail sales.

    Cons

Corporate office does not seem to know what they want to do with the company since the buyout from Staples was blocked. Some stores have removed the assistant manager role from the store in a money saving effort.

I worked at Office Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is competitive for majority of positions; ability to apply internally with other departments; some company events to up moral.

    Cons

Multiple layoffs throughout the year (large and small); company seems to be in a consistent decline; "ok" moral; learning and development courses becoming less and less to come by.

    Advice to Management

Become less top heavy - not everyone needs to be a "Director" or "Sr. Manager"

I worked at Office Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Office Depot was a great company for getting started in business. I started there when I was 16, and worked there for almost 4 years. While working there, I had great amounts of paid time off. I was also able to work with some great people, while expanding my knowledge of technology.

    Cons

Pay was horrible. There was also not real room for advancement. Mid Level managers did not know what micr managing was, and they caused a lot more problems rather than they could have solved.

    Advice to Management

    Read the reviews.

I worked at Office Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Negotiable hours, decent part time pay, regular coworkers were pretty friendly

    Cons

It was pretty common to get weird or unpleasant customers that you just had to smile and deal with because it was your job and you didn't want to get bad reviews, even if the customer was trying their hardest to scam their undeserved money back or being downright nasty. They don't let you sit down except for when you're on your break, which can be be a bit painful when you do it for 8 hours several times a week. Invest in some good work shoes. Job is understaffed in smaller towns, so jobs get divvied up strangely (ex. copy center associates clean and restock the bathrooms).

    Advice to Management

Don't take the online surveys so seriously. Punishing staff for getting a "4" on reviews doesn't make sense when some customers just don't believe in giving "5"s.
