I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great culture. Decent benefits. Was part of a great team that was encouraging.

    Cons

The merge between Depot and Max obviously caused a lot of RIF's from the Max side. Sad to see how all the hard effort to make OfficeMax a great company go down the drain after the merge.

I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many good people, confused direction as CEOs came and went

    Cons

A fair amount of office politics

    Advice to Management

Should have bought Office Depot, not the other way around. OMX was in a good financial position and had strong management (except at the top)

I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

When I started there, the CEO was a visionary who had turned the business around and had hired excellent people with great ideas. Because the business touched so many markets, it was an excellent learning experience.

    Cons

After the economic downturn of 2008, everything that distinguished OfficeMax from the competition was abandoned, and marketing focused almost entirely on DEALS DEALS DEALS. At least from a designer/advertising perspective, it got boring.

    Advice to Management

What advice? You're pretty much nonexistent at this point, aren't you?

    Pros

Great leaders who genuinely cares to develop those who were willing to learn and work hard. It was nice that people who were proven were able to have a flexible schedule

    Cons

HR didn't partner with the business well but management did their best to make everyone happy. Compensation and benefits were oaky but definitely not great.

    Advice to Management

Executives need to spend time in stores and with entry level associates to understand the day to day activity
