I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very flexible schedule
Great co-workers at the Appleton location
Job is simple once you learn the register

    Cons

Lots to learn when you start out
Not much room for moving up in the company

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing, only improvement could be showing associates how to improve sales and add-ons.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time

    Pros

Love the atmosphere of OfficeMax along with how flexible they are with part timers in terms of hours. Management is definitely a plus in my work space. Great for first job seekers.

    Cons

Simple job and potential for growth/raises very slim.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Smartphone repair (a hobby of mine)
    2. When promoted or moved to the tech area, you get to learn a lot about customers.
    3. Challenging environment.
    4. 30 Minute breaks.
    5. Hourly pay plus commission for regular and new items.

    Cons

    1. Frustrated management.
    2. Stressed staff from employee promises (without being checked first).
    3. Very low amount of staff.
    4. EVERY part time employee has to clean restrooms (no assigned days; whoever is not liked the most or steps in does it. UNTIL recently where the cashier of the night has to clean restrooms) But no janitor cleans them?
    5. When someone calls out and you are stuck at the register, YOU are the one responsible for not making any tech services. Even though, you are not allowed to leave the register and you ask for yourself to "ring out the sale," whoever is on the floor gets to STEAL the sale.
    6. Associates are in charge of making sure they get breaks. Even though management gets to decide when they go?
    7. LOTS of incidents where associates take another associate's sales (not counting the Walk-In sales).
    8. You cannot change your availability yourself.
    9. You cannot see your schedule until 4 days before the week starts, PLUS the app to see your schedule does not work.

    Advice to Management

Treat associates with more respect. If someone is not doing their job or needs assistance, then they should be communicated with. If a customer is being harassed or yelled at by an employee, even management; it should be taken seriously when an employee addresses and sees the situation. Plus, find better ways to help everyone get along in a TEAM like environment: everyone is on the same side but still advance.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time

    Pros

Co-workers and managers and relatively friendly and easy to get along with. Hours are also pretty flexible which is nice when dealing with my varying schedule.

    Cons

Some of the stores are valued significantly more than others by corporate (based on how much money they bring in) and it can be difficult to work in a store that coprorate doesn't care about. Also it takes a while to learn everything involved with the job when you're first hired on.

    Advice to Management

Spend some time working on the sales floor. Quite often management asks us to achieve goals that can be difficult to achieve. If management spent some time on the floor they would understand how difficult their goals for us can be sometimes.
