    I worked at OfficeMax full-time

    Pros

    The facility had been remodeled.

    Cons

The environment and culture changed drastically, so it was a very unpleasant work experience.

    Advice to Management

Less micro-managing and more staff to handle all of the work load.

    I worked at OfficeMax full-time

    Pros

Praised in front of other employees for my work when setting up a new store. But... then things went all downhill after the store opened.

    Cons

They hire disabled veterans but then make no accommodations for their disabilities; they only hire you for the tax credit they get.

Women don't advance. I never saw a female in management in my entire time at the company. I was actually told that women don't work in Electronics/Computers, even though I was the only one in that dept that knew what I was doing.

My schedule was messed with so much because the store manager and regional manager wanted me to quit. They made me open, work for two hours. Then come back for the last few hours to close, even though this meant a 15 mile commute each way, twice a day. No raises. No training that was promised. No benefits. No vacation days. Employee discount started out good, but was then taken away little by little until it was worthless. Cheated out of sales commissions.

    Advice to Management

Spy on your managers and find out how sexist the work culture really is. Get rid of the old boys' club, it's 2017. Women are needed in tech and should not be fighting the same fight since the Sixties, so get with the program. Or, retire.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time

    Pros

As a part time job, the flexibility was much appreciated.

    Cons

Most of the job is cashiering. Under staffing creates bad atmosphere while at work. This is in part to the changes to the company as a whole. The merger between Office Depot and Office Max has been a total disaster from the retail side.

    Advice to Management

Managers at stores do the best they can. Corporate level staff, get it together. It has been such a joke in the store.

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work environment was not bad. The hourly associates were friendley

    Cons

The management were not willing to work around my availability and they were very rude when I asked for it. Very poor hourly wage.

    Advice to Management

Be more considerate of your employees. Treat them with respect and pay them decently if you want them to stay. $8 an hour is not enough to survive.

    I worked at OfficeMax full-time

    Pros

The people that you work with are usually all on the same side trying to hit impossible goals and matrix on tiny aspects of the business throughout the day

    Cons

Upper management is terrible and this is a dying company with shrinking revenue and plans on closing over 300 stores over the next couple years.

I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Depends on the store Manager. There are some good ones who push you to be better then there are others who you really don't care working for.

    Cons

Racism, and favoritism have run very rampant i this company now. Before when it was OfficeMax it was ok but now i don't really care for this job anymore. I have brought thousands of dollars to this company and they constantly come up with a bunch of ways and excuses to keep me from keeping my promotions. There is now people who been here less now make more money than me so of course I'm not gonna care about coming on time or working to the fullest anymore.

You can't treat your employees like crap and expect them to work beyond standards. They care more about how i look than about what i do. Also every time someone black who looks a certain way comes in the store they want me to follow them when most of their shrinkage came from white employees stealing. This job is becoming more like Walmart every single day. If that is the case then i might as well go back to Walmart, at least they pay more now!

They also have it where now they are trying to promote from outside, then how in the world you expect us to work hard when you are telling us there is no room for growth!

    Advice to Management

Treat your hard working employees with more respect and maybe you can get more out of them but then again this goes to ALL companies!
