    Pros

Great atmosphere, laid back, uniform is comfortable, management is easy to speak with, training is wonderful, opportunity to provide input and give feedback is welcomed

    Cons

Never off on time, part-time associates have no desire to learn or go beyond the call of duty, associates can seem blazay about company initiatives

    Advice to Management

    Increase pay rate for associates

    Pros

Office Max has a very friendly and helpful atmosphere.

It's a great learning environment. Sales are low-pressure, and pro-customer.

The primary focus is on the customer, not profits. They're a very responsible company.

Employees, at least at our store, work in all areas of the store; you're not restricted to a single job.

The current market focus is working really well, despite a terrible economy.

The company's finances are sustainable; they are making profits.

    Cons

It's a retail store; pay, benefits, and discounts could be better.

Overall maintenance, upkeep, and behind-the-scene things tend to be lacking.

Office Max is third place in a very crowded market segment.

    Advice to Management

Improve Office Max's IT department. Our inventory system is terrible, our register functions are awkward and quirky, and our in-store PDAs have the worst software (usability).

    Pros

you get to work with the newest technology. The team is customer service driven and its a fun place to be.

    Cons

If you are not ready to work hard and apply yourself you will not like this fast paced and demanding job.

    Advice to Management

Hire more women as store managers. they are better listeners.

    Pros

Office Max was very fleixble with the hours in which you worked and also allowed for you to take time off when necessary for school or extracirricular activities. I was in high school while I was employed there, so that may be why they allowed me to do that.

    Cons

I hated working at the register. Customers were often irate because they were pressed for time while shopping on their lunch break, so the long line at the check-out counter infuriated them, despite the fact that all registers were going during the lunch hour to allow for a more efficient check out process.

    Advice to Management

    Listen more to your employees.

    Pros

    • All the employees are respectful and nice. They often joke around, which makes working more fun.
    • Commission on certain products.
    • Flexible managers.
    • Being able to work with friendly customers.

    Cons

    • Often close = no night life.
    • Having to deal with unfriendly customers.
    • A lot to learn in little time.
    • When busy, things tend to get very crazy and hectic.
    • Standing the whole time (not a con necessarily, just something that takes a while to get used to).

    Advice to Management

I would suggest giving employees a bigger discount. Also, don't give employees so much to do in such a little time. It is hard to get everything requested done some days because of constant stream of customers. If we finish with one task, have us talk to you and assign us another.

    Pros

Positive and motivating atmosphere. I have worked at officemax for over a year and have had a positive experience so far. Hard work is recognized and that makes it easier to work hard for the company.

    Cons

Having to sell extended warranties. This is not required but managers expect sales associates to sell extended warranties on electronis. The one perk is that you make a very small commision on it.

    Advice to Management

    Stay positive

    Cons

There are some issues with raises...

    Advice to Management

Continue to respect both employee and customer.
