I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good entry level starting place if you need a job. through to attending school. Ended up quiting because it was taking away too much time from school.

    Cons

Wasn't managed that well. No room for advancement. Were always short handed, high stress levels.

I have been working at OfficeMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

With every protection plans sold, there are incentives that goes to your paycheck.

Store employees were able to recover from poor management prior when I first started here. Now, as a team, were are now a strong performing store in regards to customer interactions and sales. Our neighborhood have modest to positive reviews about us.

Training was a bit rubbish but was able to pick it up through trial and error as well as customer interactions. Management DOES help you training you to become a better sales associate.

    Benefits are a plus too!

    Cons

Store presentation: it needs to be more interesting with more technology. True, all stores vary by location but it helps bring interests to customers.

POOR marketing team: when was the last time you saw an Office Depot commercial or use social media outlets to expand their brand recognition?

    The name!

To the CEO: Re-brand the company as Office Depot. As that so hard? Even our prices don't match. This should have been merged back years ago!!

    Advice to Management

None. I'm proud of my management team and staff. :)

    Pros

Great culture. Decent benefits. Was part of a great team that was encouraging.

    Cons

The merge between Depot and Max obviously caused a lot of RIF's from the Max side. Sad to see how all the hard effort to make OfficeMax a great company go down the drain after the merge.

    Pros

Cool, down-to-earth coworkers; nice retail environment to work in.

    Cons

Management constantly tries to get employees to sell customers all sorts of accessories and damage protection packages.

    Advice to Management

Realize that the vast majority of customers are just trying to buy basic office supplies and hitting target sales goals is not always easy.

I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Many good people, confused direction as CEOs came and went

    Cons

A fair amount of office politics

    Advice to Management

Should have bought Office Depot, not the other way around. OMX was in a good financial position and had strong management (except at the top)
