I worked at Ogilvy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free ice cream on Tuesdays in the summer! Free water and coffee on every floor

    Cons

Offices located at 11th and 44th; 15 minute walk from the nearest train Constant jackhammering during the workday as they do construction to the exterior of the building Hyper-political work environment with minimal transparency to decision making processes or outcomes Meeting culture Bloated account department paired with inexperienced creative talent and indolent development team Reactive executive leadership that is non-responsive to internal communication; focuses primarily on account growth—wining and dining the clients Strategic consultants for U.S. Customs and Border Protection—ekk!

I worked at Ogilvy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I can recall very few pros to my experience. I would say if you can find a person willing to mentor or advocate for you there it could be an amazing place of growth. In my experience, very few people take the time to even train you to do the bare minimum your job requires. It's very devil wears prada culture wise. But it is a great place to learn the advertising industry

    Cons

Lack of culture - it felt more corporate than ad agency. definitely a competitive vibe among peers. Work life balance is non existent if you are a junior level employee.

I worked at Ogilvy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Management approach is baptism-by-fire, so you learn a lot very quickly to stay afloat. This creates ownership for the Account team, helping drive the growth of their skill-set.

    Cons

Directors are terrible. Some are completely inept due to their lack of experience. Others are micro-managers with horrible business ethics (price gouging, bullying, openly conspiring to have others fired, etc.). Very unprofessional, petty group.

I have been working at Ogilvy part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Many of the most creative and intelligent minds work there, easy access to management at all levels, not much red tape. Lots of nice folk, competitive with little backstabbing. Clients are mostly famous brands, good for portfolios.

    Cons

Good performance is praised but rarely rewarded, it is an expectation: salaries are at the bottom of the scale, raises are meagre and bonuses non existent, unless you are top management or a flight risk.

I have been working at Ogilvy

    Pros

Excellent training and experience - When you handle an account, you do everything (client-servicing, media relations and copywriting), so you learn and ideally master all the areas of public relations. If you can handle Ogilvy PR and its top-caliber clients, you can handle anything.

    Cons

Very poor work-life balance - the work day is typically 12 hours and you will always have events on weeknights/weekends that you do not get paid overtime for.
