I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The NYC office is diverse and full of great opportunities. They focus heavily on company culture and making it a great work environment.

    Cons

They are working on integrating their several different sub-companies into one. This will help with internal communication and knowledge!

    Advice to Management

The HR and management are great resources for younger employees. They are eager to help, listen and offer guidance to those who are newer.

    Pros

Smart people, great clients, lots of different categories (B2B, B2C), variety of potential accounts to work on, even live in another country, commitment to training returning, worldwide network, people who stay and grow

    Cons

New York office is virtually in New Jersey adding a half hour to everyone's commute; people work long hours; there are a lot of politics in places

    Advice to Management

Get involved with the junior and middle layers to let them know you care; walk the halls more

    Long hours
Because of its large size, sometimes difficult to get things done quickly

    Pros

Great, smart people. Excellent accounts, with great clients. Especially within the NY office - some huge, sexy, flagship accounts to work on.

Always pitching and winning new business. And you have the opportunity to jump in and help wherever you have knowledge. Being here only one year, I've been able to help out on a variety of pitches for high profile accounts.

Compensation is great. Benefits are pretty good. Office space itself is AMAZING, even though it's located on 11th Avenue.

    Cons

You're owned by a huge holding company... which has all the politics you would imagine. However, you do also have the backing of WPP, which can have its benefits as well.

    Advice to Management

Not much. Keep on keepin on. Appreciate the candid visibility into financials, and changes being made within the agency itself.

    Pros

They treated interns like employees and therefore had meaningful personal and professional growth. The compensation was generous. Best of all, the people were amazing and had me looking forward to going to work each morning.

    Cons

It seemed that the "class of associates" had an advantage as far as attention from senior management, compared to those of similar age, experience, and talent who were not part of this separate "class."

    Advice to Management

the associate program seems great, but you may be overlooking others just as worthy for promotions.

    Pros

Young, growing, energetic, talented. Stable clients. Good relationships. The agency has been growing very fast during challenging economic times. The talent pool continues to grow. A renewed commitment to training makes Ogilvy Atlanta the 'teaching hospital of advertising' once again.

    Cons

Long hours, big agency politics at times. Big growth has created the need to improve processes to accommodate the larger headcount and volume of work. Need more project managers.

    Advice to Management

We could use less senior leaders and more workers to get the work done.

    Cons

    - older candidates may have a hard time pushing out people in current lead roles

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The breadth of expertise you are surrounded by. The ability to work on large, global clients on global campaigns

    Cons

The scale is limiting and often leads to a red tape some times. It is seen as a very business-ey agency, and not particularly creative.
