I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The NYC office is diverse and full of great opportunities. They focus heavily on company culture and making it a great work environment.

    Cons

They are working on integrating their several different sub-companies into one. This will help with internal communication and knowledge!

    Advice to Management

The HR and management are great resources for younger employees. They are eager to help, listen and offer guidance to those who are newer.

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Neo@Ogilvy has all of the resources you'd expect of a big agency. Training across multiple disciplines is available if you can find the time. Benefits are great too.

    Cons

    - Work/life balance is horrific
    - Incredibly difficult to move up
    - Very bureaucratic

    Advice to Management

Reward your employees for the work and hours they put in.

    Cons

Made a major change in the work culture.

    Pros

Great leadership - some of the best I’ve ever encountered! Autonomy and trust very early on, learn a lot very quickly, media perks, youthful atmosphere, work hard/play hard!

    Cons

Long hours. Lots of turnover - but pretty common for agencies - and also had some of the most loyal employees as well. Frustratingly slow process to get approval on raises, hiring and promotions.

    Negative Outlook

    I worked at Ogilvy & Mather full-time

    Pros

Bosses are always away so you don’t have to be stuck to your desk. High turnover so don’t have to get to know anyone.

    Cons

Trust with accounts and management - management messes up and blames their team. Very uneasy and weird environment. No work culture, people are silent and don’t do anything together. Pretty much like a depressing machine.

    Advice to Management

Trust who you hired and don’t be gone on vacation so much.

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very talented and dedicated people who are willing to do what it takes to get the job done well.

    Cons

Form over substance seems to rule the day; no pay increases and limited promotional opportunities for staff. The attrition among those with the most talent has increased dramatically over the course of this year. The continuously cancelled or delayed salary and promotional reviews results in a lack of trust in the leadership and prompts attrition of the most talented. This does not bode well for the future of the organization.

    Advice to Management

Salary and promotional opportunities cannot be the first thing to go when trimming. Spend more on those things and not on the "trend of the day" programs that seem to come and go quickly. People don't mind working very hard if something meaningful would result.
I am concerned about the future of this industry and even more concerned about the possibility of Ogilvy being in the mix when the dust settles.
