I have been working at Ohio Dominican University as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, student workers and your supervisors are bery nice and kind as you work with them. ODU is known for care and kindness.

    Cons

Sometimes, the other worker doesn't put effort in the works that both people needs to do. Easy to be lazy than actually working on the job you needed to be done.

    Advice to Management

Nothing really needs to be changed.

I worked at Ohio Dominican University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive colleagues; inexpensive meals at the cafeteria; beautiful campus; peaceful wooded area behind campus is good for walks; dedicated faculty.

    Cons

When upper level management decides they don't like someone, if an employee dares to ask questions about the decision making process of the university, if an employee asks for transparency of the executive leaders and board of trustees, management does everything they can to make life miserable for the employee. Executive management was very paranoid about what employees discussed, whether information was shared among employees that concerned employees, and would undermine mid level managers. Sexism is rampant. Favoritism isn't subtle. Inequitable treatment of same level staff was common. Compliance with regulations is virtually nonexistent. This is one of the worst places anyone could work.

    Advice to Management

Take some leadership and management courses and seminars. Understand what an organization can do to retain staff. Work with faculty and staff instead of assuming an us-them attitude. Get training on effective leadership - which doesn't mean ordering people around.

    Pros

ODU employs a lot of great people who are passionate about students. Students are wonderful as well. Beautiful campus.

    Cons

Lack of communication from and confidence in ODU administration/leadership. Low salaries. All offices expected to "do more for/with less."

    Advice to Management

    Work to improve employee morale.

I have been working at Ohio Dominican University full-time

    Pros

A lot of good, dedicated employees who truly care about what they do.

    Cons

Salaries are not competitive, leadership has been lacking with no oversight from the board.

    Advice to Management

Need to address morale to avoid further talent loss.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Best boss ever and the staff is really nice. Times are flexible and you get to meet everyone around campus, from administration to students. You learn a lot

    Cons

School, classes, studying and work was tough. The bad part was that some people would not do their job to the fullest and then you have to do their work but then at the end everything pays off

    Advice to Management

They are the best. Nothing has to change. If they leave most of the staff will leave because they do understand students and what they go through. They are the best.

    Pros

Students are wonderful -- fun, hardworking, open to feedback.

    Cons

University is experiencing cutbacks and financial constraints. Not a good working environment.

    Advice to Management

Add to campus life. Stop ignoring the obvious.

I worked at Ohio Dominican University full-time

    Pros

Being a small university, there is a real sense of community among the students, faculty, and staff. The staff works hard to help students realize their academic goals.

    Cons

The pay is just terrible and raises are a non-existent thing. This is definitely one of those love it because of the work and the people, not because the pay and the benefits are all that hot. Great place if you're a second earner in the household, not so great if you are single.

    Advice to Management

You're doing what you can given the climate. With a much less expensive alternative a couple of miles away, it difficult to be anything but who you are.

I have been working at Ohio Dominican University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pros for working at my school is that it is convenient, and I am able to work when ever I want. I can study or watch movies while i'm at work if I have nothing else to do.

    Cons

Sometimes working to three a.m is no fun, and a lot of times when you can't work people don't pick up your shifts.
