I have been working at Oklahoma Baptist University part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere that works around your schedule understanding that school comes first. OBU has a number of positions available to students.

    Cons

It's only minimum wage for most positions and the most you can ever make is $8 an hour.

    Pros

Awesome people and mission of the company as a whole. I worked there for several years and had many good experiences.

    Cons

Very underpaid. At nearly every position there is a discrepancy between this place and similar ones in the area.

I worked at Oklahoma Baptist University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked for the athletic department. My job consisted of filming, keeping stats, making social media posts, and things like that. It was awesome to get to work in conjunction with my university sports team! It was like getting paid to go to games!

    Cons

I really don't have many complaints about the job. The biggest issue is that as a part time student work, you are paid minimum wage, with no raises. Also, you are capped at 20 hours per week.

I have been working at Oklahoma Baptist University part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful campus, lots of new buildings, lots of campus activities and events to enjoy, most staff and faculty take a persona interest and care about students. Interdisciplinary faculty network and collaboration.

    Cons

Lack of communication about job duties, little orientation and poor support. Some verbal intimidation and bullying observed - varies greatly across campus departments.

    Advice to Management

Improve work environment to a more positive Christian approach to faculty, staff and students. Be more forthcoming with salary information and contracts

I have been working at Oklahoma Baptist University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The small campus allows for some great classroom moments as you really get to know your students. Faculty and staff are mostly encouraging to one another. The benefits are good while the actual take home pay is embarrassing compared to similar opportunities

    Cons

Communication is terrible. Decisions that impact faculty and students are made first, then questions asked later. Rather than ask the professionals, faculty often just get asked to just deal with whatever mess was created. Expect to work extra to overcome these challenges.

Its a very isolating as there isn't much teamwork. Collaboration is minimal. Prepare to just come in, do your part, and go home.

    Advice to Management

You have an entire campus of professionals. They know what they need better than you. Designing programs, facilities, and such while ignoring their input is foolish.

    Pros

Family atmosphere in a small university. Students, faculty and staff truly care. The university is growing, so that offers tremendous opportunities for career advancement.

    Cons

The university is located in a small town (Shawnee) that does not offer too many opportunities for recreation. The closest big town is Oklahoma City, and houses good museums and theatres, but it is almost an hour away.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you do!
