    Pros

The mission of OBI is strong, encouraging people to donate blood to help those in need is something we should all do.

    Cons

OBI is expanding beyond Oklahoma which is difficult to explain when asking donors to give. The top Vice President positions are male dominated.

    Advice to Management

Listen to more diverse voices at OBI beyond the select few who meet once or twice a month in executive sessions.

    Pros

The pros here is knowing that you are making a difference to someone somewhere. This company knew what the bottom dollar was but they didn't force it down Your throat. They would go above and beyond to make sure that the blood was there and safe for the community. The people is what makes the place so good. They pay wasn't bad. You have your base pay and then you get extra for working weekends and non center hours.

    Cons

The main cons to working here is it could be better pay and advancement opportunities are few. And the hours. Love them or hate them it's up to you. Some days you work at 1 am and some days you will get off at 11pm. But they try to give you time in between to sleep.

    Advice to Management

Always keep the donors and patience in mind. Everything else will work itself out.

    Pros

Company car, phone, and computer. Easy computer system to learn. They have fairly in depth training, though every territory is different and needs to be learned. They are not overly demanding as long as you do your job.

    Cons

If for any reason a drive is unsuccessful they browbeat you exhaustively about it to prevent a repeat. Unfortunately, sometimes there is not a good answer or logical reason that a drive tanked. There is a lot of driving involved if your territory is further away. Also, while initial new hire training on "how to" is great, they do not help with training gaps that may arise later on. If your territory is struggling and you cant figure it out yourself, then you are out of luck as they will just replace you rather than help you.

Great experience for anyone advancing in the medical field.

    Cons

Better pay, better hours, and more opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Please hire individuals who share the same work ethic and integrity as those who continually keep OBI as a professional organization.

    Pros

Company takes care of its employees with a fantastic HR team, knowledgeable and caring management, and decent benefits.

Employees are helpful and friendly individuals that do not take themselves too seriously.

The mission of the comany is a noble one. They strive to save lives.

In my department, there was never an issue about taking days off. If you submitted your time in advance it was generally approaved.

All-in-all, this is a great company that has handled weathering the changes of time and life very well.

    Cons

Hospital hours are a requirement. If bad weather hits the state be prepared to come in to work even if it happens to be a day off.

If you work the over night shift and there is a company meeting or training, you are going to miss out on sleep while only the work of day time workers are interrupted. Even after all these years the company has yet to emplement a plan of action to accomidate night workers whether its for meetings and trainings or company cookouts.

    Advice to Management

Always keep an open mind along with your open door policy.

This company really cares about the cause. All of the employees are dedicated to ensuring that they create the best possible outcome!

    Cons

There is a lot of movement within the company which can be good, but also a bit difficult!

I have been working at Oklahoma Blood Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are a compassionate company currently in growth mode in a market that is slowing. Competitively, this puts them in a great place for employees to grow and have new opportunities. They are much like a family! Bonus potential is fantastic!

    Cons

They might be the only family you see if you are not an 8-5 office employee. Healthcare is horrible unless you live in Oklahoma. Everything is driven from the home office in OKC, which sometimes leads to problems in other areas and regions.

    Advice to Management

Help your employees have work/life balance and they will stay with you!!

I have been working at Oklahoma Blood Institute full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You can go home every day feeling like you made a difference in helping save someone's life. They have great benefits. Very mission driven.

    Cons

Not a great work-life balance. Highly regulated so it's stressful being under such strict guidelines. SOP's are constantly changing so it's very hard to keep up with so many changes.

    Advice to Management

Try to give your employees a better work-life balance so they don't get burned out. Fewer changes to SOP's.
