I worked at Old Chicago full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

OC was some of the best and worst years of my life. The people you work with are phenomenal. We went through a lot in the 7 years I worked for them. They will continue to grow.

    Cons

The region I was in will not grow any more. It seems to be a boys club attitude with the regional managers and my regional in particular, drank a little too much in his own stores.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote from within. To attract the best talent, you have to have the best offer.

    Cons

Working by yourself most of the time, management doesn't care about employees or helps them whenever they need help, favoritism, gossip mongers, talk to the employees as if they weren't human, management sleeps with its employees

Treat people how you want to be treated

I worked at Old Chicago full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Room for growth, competitive pay, benefits, great atmosphere and culture. Old Chicago is a growing company that still has a family feel.

    Cons

Hours tend to be long like many other restaurant jobs. Work / life balance tends to be overlooked. Vacation time could be better.

    Advice to Management

Have a true focus on people instead of a phony one.

    Pros

If you love alcohol and pizza the 40% employee discount might keep you around.

    Cons

If management does not like you, you end up doing other peoples work. Shifts are not based on true performance, just on how many reward sign ups and tasters you give out. Management is always busy dealing with the low staffed kitchens or broken equipment, they are never on the floor and are hard to find when you need one. Expect this to take loads of time from your tables when you need one. Kitchen is payed terribly and expect long hours. Some kitchen staff work 60 hours a week to make up for being low staffed. Kitchen staff is always exhausted due to long hours and low staff. High turn around rate. Regulars are snobs and do not tip well. Most general customers will tip 10% to 15% even if you are amazing at your job. Kitchen can end up having 30 minute ticket times leaving customers angry who take it out on the servers who have no control over what the kitchen does. Coupons leave you searching for management. They tell bartenders who apply they are being hired to bar-tend but end up serving. Hard workers end up covering lazy workers work loads.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your employees by being on the floor at all times. Pay your kitchen staff what they are worth. No one can live off 11$ an hour, and certainly no one will sit through a 13 hour shift at 11$ an hour. Most of the time when people complain its due to the kitchen messing up or someone else delivering food to a table that does not belong to them. Quit acting like cocktail staff is so amazing when the general servers run 50% of their food due to them not being able to keep up with 10+ tables each. If other servers cant handle taking out their own food to their tables then dont give them so many tables. Make it so servers can focus on what they have so servers can provide good service. Stop telling everyone you all moved up to management in one month. Learn witch of your staff work hard and stop rewarding the lazy staff who put their work on others and then later take credit for it.
