I worked at Old Country Buffet full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people ( employees ) that work for you. They are great people.

    Cons

The company is sexist, always hear negative. Never anything good. Will get rid of you if you challenge them.

    Advice to Management

Don't be sneaky, if your gonna get rid of someone be decent enough to tell them. Just because you run the company doesn't mean you are always right.

I worked at Old Country Buffet full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People I worked with, the guest, good salary to begin

    Cons

Always berated by area managers, never knew what was correct way to do things all area directors had different standard of what was right, were given certain amount of hours to use then they kept taking more and more hours away forcing managers to work position then area directors would come in and get angry with managers for working positions. Many changes that we as managers weren't smart but we were never listened to our concerns pushed to way side. All the people that really cared about company were let go and greedy money hungry people were hired. Being made to work 70 hours a week getting paid for 55 hours and never having time with family.

    Advice to Management

They should've concentrated on what was happening in the stores rather than being "undercover" on TV. Supposedly he learned a lot from being on the show but the stores were falling apart and there was money to fix them. Don't take so much labor from the stores that they can't run properly. Don't take all incentives away from employees so they want to work for your company. Don't expect your managers to work 70 hours a week just so you can make labor.

while i had my experience as a server and working there for a year really taught me some valuable life lesson that will benefit me in the future.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great job from a former employee who had a great experience being apart of the team as a Server!!

I worked at Old Country Buffet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good place to get experience. Good was ok. Corp was mostly hands off letting the stores run themselves. Stable job for management.

    Cons

Massive hour cuts. A lot of time spent on the line as a manager or cook instead of checking quality and service.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and guests about how the food and service have fallen. Labor cuts and staffing issues don't make for a great family dining experience.

I worked at Old Country Buffet part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I believe the food tasted pretty good. I never had a problem with it. I even had the chance to sample some new items.

    Cons

As a Dishwasher, I had long shifts by myself on busy days. I primarily worked Saturday and Sunday while going to college, and those are possibly the worst days to work there. For 10 hours or so each day, I mostly worked dishwasher by myself or with a completely incompetent co-worker. I always came in at 6:30 am for my shift, and had to pick up the last night dishwasher's slack, such as dirty dishes being put away for the chefs to use, or still dirty sinks, or the dish washing machine needing to be completely cleaned. There were multiple health risks in the back end, such as dropped food being sold to customers, and still dirty dishes being used prior to my shift. Additionally, I lost three paychecks which put me back on car payments and school payments. Really bad management!

    Advice to Management

Start from scratch. Pay employees more so they might be motivated to do better. Fire those who do not keep up a standard of work. Never have a dishwasher alone on a Saturday or Sunday. If possible, have three dishwashers at once to steady the tide of a dish stack falling.
