I worked at Old Dominion Freight full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are great for all full time employees

    Cons

There is next to no training for promotions within the company, but expect supervisors to train hourly employees

    Advice to Management

Offer training sessions to new salary employees, not just new hires for the dock. And upper management needs to remember what it's like to be on the dock, rather than sitting in the office out of the weather.

You become a number and everybody is expendable.

I worked at Old Dominion Freight full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back, Most people who work there are good people. Friends. The building in general is nice atmosphere.

    Cons

Senior leadership wont clearly communicate ANYTHING. Literally left guessing what to work on. After incessantly asking even direct managers dont know because they are complacent a let one or two directors from other areas decide whats best for them, because those one or two directors are best buddies with IT VP. The Morale is terrible. It's in Thomas-ville. Middle of nowhere. USed to have work from home...taken away. Because one or two people abused. Salaries are awful unless you come externally. If you work your way up they BS you on what they can give you even though you are doing significantly more work than external hires for one or two tasks. Bonuses used to be good, they managed to also slash that while the company EVERY YEAR is making more and more record profits... but they act like IT has to cut back because "we spent too much money". NO. "WE" didn't spend too much money. A prior VP did, who you let go. Stop making everyone pay for the sins of the forefathers. Realize that without IT your freight goes nowhere.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your technical people instead of going to gartner conferences to learn what is already available on google, and among your technical staffs common knowledge. Pay attention to people who vape at their desk, or come in at 10-11AM EVERY DAY and show disciplinary action. Peers see it and notice you dont care. Learn real project management. Also, you can't be a good leader in IT if you don't know a real technical thing about what you are a leader for, and don't pretend to. If you don't know, talk to the people who work for you.... it is their job!!
