I worked at Old Dominion Freight full-time

    Pros

Good Pay - When work was available
    Decent benefits
    Good Equipment
    Great Local Linehaul Manager

I was at Old Dominion for 2.4 years, and at first it was really great. I started out as a bag driver, and was making good money being gone for as long as I wanted to OTR. After a year, I transferred to a smaller terminal where I could be home every day and have a more normal life. The freight slowed down there considerably, because across the system, the Company WAY over hired linehaul drivers. As a result, I transferred back to the original terminal, and things were good again as a bag driver. Then this past November, freight died off completely, and I did not work for two months. I would be sometimes be 55th on the board to get dispatched out. There were still a few terminals in their system that were viable options to have steady work, and I applied for a transfer to one of them for financial reasons, and my transfer was denied. Work slowed down do much, that I decided to quit, and pursue another other opportunities.

    Cons

    1. Consistent lack of work
    2. Management. OD management is quickly becoming like the management at Walmart. I was a trucker there for over ten years, and over time they become just another hack trucking company instead of being the Private Fleet that Sam Walton was proud of.

    Advice to Management

Start treating employees like the founders of the Company did, because their culture is quickly becoming like Walmart.
