  • I would say there are actually not too many cons, maybe the amount of pushing to open credit cards can get a little annoying but manageable (in 309 reviews)

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff (but that is on a location basis), no-judgement work environment, flexible hours, easy path to higher position

    Cons

It can get a little too perky sometimes, especially when you have a manager like mine that lives and breathes the brand. Customer service is, of course, a case by case basis. If you've never worked in retail before, be forewarned, there will be good days and bad days - and sometimes there will be awful customers followed immediately by fantastic customers. You need to be able to let the little stuff go

    Advice to Management

Old Navy (and Gap Inc by extension) start pay at $8.35 an hour for the first six months, and $10 afterwards. Although they are a leader in equal gender pay, I would seriously recommend they reconsider this policy and bump up the trial pay amount.

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is good, yearly raises, plenty of opportunities. The discount is okay, it used to be better but they change it every couple years.

    Cons

Constant customer interaction, competitive hours. About half the customers are nice, the other half are complete jerks or creeps. Being a cashier means you have to interact with them more than anyone else in the store.

    Advice to Management

Add more employee benefits, for most of the awful customers we deal with we're not being treated as though we matter to the company.

I have been working at Old Navy part-time

    Pros

You get an amazing discount at all the stores owned by gap including old navy, gap and banana republic, 50% off to be exact.

    Cons

Management is very poor, at least at my store. They all have favorites, they don't train not talk to newer employees. They just leave them hanging. Honestly I don't recommend anyone works there as of now. Very unorganized, chaotic, they don't give out hours (but they give hours to favorites) and they are very rude.

    Advice to Management

Be professional, treat everyone equally, and don't keep all your employees in one spot in the store. If they are trained on register, fitting room, and sales floor LET THEM DO ALL 3. Don't keep them in one place it gets boring. Also, give out hours equally so everyone gets what they need, not what you want them to have.

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Atmosphere is wonderful, employees make your day
Discount is 50% off at old navy and 25% at gap
Great at working around your schedule

    Cons

No such thing as full time unless you are a manager
Great job for college student, not someone that has to support a family

    Advice to Management

Policy is policy, and every customer should abide by it.

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

50% off all regular priced clothing, INCLUDING at Banana Republic and Gap. Good Hours, Store is never too hectic. Very rare bad customer incidents

    Cons

I would say there are actually not too many cons, maybe the amount of pushing to open credit cards can get a little annoying but manageable.

    Advice to Management

Change the music up more often! It's okay to have more mainstream music. it doesn't have to be obscure remixes. I promise people love singing to known songs while shopping! It Ain't Me by Selena Gomez played today at work and I saw several people singing along. More mainstream songs please!

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working for Old Navy is fun when you get to see new styles come out on the floor before anybody else. I have helped many customers pull together outfits and seeing the joy that comes from that really makes the job worth while. You receive a 50% employee discount excluding clearance.

    Cons

I've found managers don't take the time to explain and make sure employees understand the card holder concepts and sale requirements. Customers get upset easily because old navy does not make clear what select styles are on sale. Hardly any advancements.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. Thouroughly train employees on registers, opening Old Navy cards, and giving information on what select styles are on sale. Make known the opportunities to advance and how to do so.
