I worked at Old Navy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunities to meet and talk to customers.

    Cons

Very difficult with schedule conflicts. Took this job as a part time job and advised the manager that my FULL TIME job came first. They totally disregarded that I even HAD another job and expected me to make up excuses to cover part time shifts.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic about conforming to availability when hiring part time employees.

    Pros

Great discount. Good pay. Never a dull moment.

    Cons

This company doesn't care about you as a person. Everyone is expendable. Don't even think about it if you have kids. There is absolutely no work/life balance. It is a thankless job.

    Advice to Management

Learn to care about people. Give more realistic expectations and payroll.

I have been working at Old Navy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lax dress code, decent pay, will make a lot of friends, Quarterly Bonus, 4 weeks pto, 50% off discount, closes early on Sunday

    Cons

Upper management does nothing. Scheduling structure is
flawed. You will never get an opportunity to do what your job description entails. 90% of the time you will rot away in the fitting room or on the register. Work life balance is non existent. Be prepared to go months without a weekend off. People who have only been in management here become tools and accept how it is. If you have been in management for any other retailers you will despise it. I encourage you to look at the career postings and observe how many openings there are. This is not pure coincidence, shortly after starting here you will plot your exit.

    Advice to Management

Hold your gm's and smm's accountable. Don't let them enjoy bankers hours while the rest of your leadership gets worked into the ground. Your past restructuring was a failure which I'm sure you already know from your retention statistics. Give your associates an opportunity to succeed. Don't merely use them as opportunities to make things as convenient as possible for you. Practice what you preach even in the slightest.
