I worked at Old World Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-benefits are great with 18 PTO days plus 6-7 holidays off
-good place to get your foot in the door if you want to get into this industry
-will learn a lot on excel and just business basics.
    -great holiday party and events

    Cons

-workloads for some can be a bit too much
    -upper management takes over everything
    - a lot of tidy work
    -unfriendly management
-pay is not too good, 45k

    Advice to Management

learn to talk to your employees and make them feel like they are important to your team. Be open to communication and let them take the rains sometimes. You are working with adults, not children so try to treat them as such. You have such a great company overall in your hands but with the lack of direction and management you will continue to have turnover.

I worked at Old World Industries full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They really don't care about their customer service
department! If they did, they would treat everyone much better and have much less turnover.
Benefits are great & PTO is great, probably because they know no one will last long eneough to enjoy.

    Cons

Horrible Customer Service Supervisor with no people or team work skills! This person had a bad attitude about the job everyday & was miserable to work with The management in Customer Service-Chemicals is
HORRIBLE!!!! Training was Terrible!! They expect you to know your job(that takes AT LEAST 6 mo-1yr to learn) in 3 months or else you get fired! Turnover at company is constant!

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage your team and work AS A TEAM!! Don't be so quick to judge others

I have been working at Old World Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can get involved in as many areas as you'd like and take on as much responsibility as you can handle

    Cons

There isn't much opportunity for advancement within a given department and not much opportunity to move to other departments

    Advice to Management

Need to work together more versus each department trying to build their own kingdom

    Pros

I have been working at Old World for a little under a year. There is a great office culture, and the work is fast-paced and interesting (though that depends on your department). People here relate to their managers (mostly) and if you do your work in a timely fashion, you'll never run into trouble. On the contrary, really.

    Cons

Management does not provide direction, but anticipates you are flexible and capable to do the job asked before you. The office is a bit small.

I worked at Old World Industries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are really good (especially medical insurance). Family atmosphere, fun employee events that foster a pleasant work environment.

    Cons

Managers are loyal (often to a fault) to employees have been with the company for years. Many people who have worked there for years barely work but are protected because of their "years of service".

    Advice to Management

360 reviews for all employees. Too many people in management get away with whatever they want because they are never held accountable.

    Cons

Hours are long because the company is invested in iteself although management does not expect you to do anything that they do not expect of themselves

    Advice to Management

life work balance would be better

I worked at Old World Industries full-time

    Pros

OWI is a great Company with a lot of great employees. They do a lot for the employees as far as benefits, vacation time, catered in lunches, and special recognition days.

    Cons

If you are going to work at OWI DO NOT take a job in the Transportation Dept. If you have'nt noticed already in the job postings, there are always job openings in the Transportation Dept. There have been several people in this Dept that have left over the past year. It's unfortunate, because many were very good employees. If you ever saw the show "Horrible Bosses" well one of them is in charge here. Take this advise seriously, look at a position in a different Dept.

    Advice to Management

If you don't address the problems in the Transportation Dept you will continue to have turnover!!

I worked at Old World Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people you work with on a daily basis in the company and on your team. Benefits are great.

    Cons

Upper management and hr should really question why the transportation department is such a revolving door. The reason is clear but no one can or does anything about it. Seniority is more important than knowledge and passion for a job. Good people keep on leaving and things could change for the better if they just let it. The lack of communication for a "team" was a joke. It was a need know basis on who was closer with the boss.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at why people are leaving instead of sweeping it under the rug. It is sad that good hard working people have to leave in order to make a point. Shake things up and better a department, don't enable it to keep failing. You are only as good as your people, and if they keep leaving...... what do you have?

I have been working at Old World Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not many, benefits and compensation were average

    Cons

Revolving door of employees, no one ever stayed long enough to really understand the position they held.
Management had numerous closed door secret meetings and would often hold interviews with interviewees from staffing agencies to replace their current staff.

No trust between employees and management, very negative work environment. Quit after several months of dealing with Old World's negative management style.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep employees longer than a year. Your management style is far below the industry standard and with the sale of the company, you should try to make employees feel safe in their positions.
