I have been working at Olivet Nazarene University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great people to work with
    Room for advancement
    Reasonable teaching load
    Reasonable research requirements
    High quality faculty
    Good management
Average salary for size and type of school
    Good students
    Very good benefits

    Cons

    No tenure
Funding for professional development is minimal

    Advice to Management

Absence of tenure is a disincentive to prospective faculty. Most other comparable schools have tenure.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I worked at Olivet Nazarene University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Steady work schedule, decent benefits, education assistance for employees is good. If you like the color purple and enjoy slave labor, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Very corrupt business, operates outside the law and ethics, uses their money and power to control the outcome in their favor. Does not appreciate lower level employees, uses fear as bullying as management tactics. Low pay, no raises, says they can't afford it, however they bought sponsorship of the Cubs, Bears, and Colts. That money came from firing good people for no reason. Does not take employee safety seriously. Don't drink the kool-aid.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like dirt. Fire the managers who bully their staff and stop making excuses for them. Truly act as Christians and do not use that as a cover for how you really are. I have been treated better in non-Christian organizations. Also, stop breaking the law.

    Pros

Wonderful group of people, Excellent benefits, Great atmosphere.

    Cons

They hire too much from within. Very little thinking outside the "Nazarene bubble".

    Advice to Management

Hire experts outside of ONU grads, bring in fresh new ideas.

I worked at Olivet Nazarene University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a pretty stable place. If you're looking for a strong Christian environment this could be a good fit. Great leadership from John Bowling. Incredible health insurance and time off including paternal leave.

    Cons

Nepotism by the bucketload. Slow to change. Slower to innovate.

    Advice to Management

Let go more...trust the people you pay and don't be so top down.
