I have been working at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a great company with great benefits. The people are wonderful and you can really advance your career in a short time.

    Cons

I can't say there is much bad about ollies. You're closed on holidays, close early the day before a holiday and are only open until 9. Not bad.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice that I could give to anyone. Keep up the great work.

I worked at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-20% Discount -Earned Vacation time if you're full time -Pretty relaxed environment

    Cons

Be prepared to move some heavy merchandise. Use this place as your opportunity to get into shape! You'll have customers who will try to switch tickets. Keep a watchful eye. Tight hours in the summer. Maybe two days if you're part time, and you're scheduled right to the minimum At 35 hours if you're full time during the summer. The place will feel pretty darn understaffed even if one person calls off.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be better incentives for employees who deliver excellence to the company (I.e. productivity, outstanding customer service, etc). One annual raise of 3% of current salary is laughable. Profits for Ollie's are phenomenal. If you took even a fraction of a percent of revenue and invested it in your employees, I think you will all see just how great of an atmosphere that creates in an Ollie's. As a former Supervisor...

I have been working at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet

    Pros

Can quickly advance with the company. Good benefits, PTO builds quickly. Great programs to help you move up with company.

    Cons

Company sometimes seems to push unreasonably hard to get task done in a very short time span. Stores have a large turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

A lot of things seem to have changed since the company changed from a family owned business to corp owned. We see the stress you are under but remember that most of your employees are working hard to do the best they can. Sometimes all the demands put on employees are unreasonable.

    Pros

Great coworkers, good management, growth opportunities if you want to

    Cons

Freight is out of control, supervisors and management are run ragged and underpaid. The people who load the truck do a terrible job and are paid more than the employees responsible for unloading it.

    Advice to Management

This is to district managers and above. Get a clue as to what's going on in the stores. The hours per store need to increase by triple or freight needs to decrease by triple. ALLIE SUPERVISORS OVERTIME

I have been working at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The discount and some of the regular customers. Great district manager.

    Cons

Management has poor communication. You're given multiple things to do with a small time frame to do it. There is rarely enough help in store to properly help the customers and clean up. Managers start project's and don't finish them but penalize you like it was your fault. Almost no recognition is given for a job work done. Very little of any treading is given both in promotions and to new hires.

    Advice to Management

The company needs to take a long look at their management teams. Make sure you have the hours to accommodate the customers. Give pepper training to both new hires and when people are promoted.
