    Pros

Really can't think of any pros

    Cons

No ethics whatsoever, cheats people out of pay, vacation and a life. 70 to 80 hour work week. The Company key's the managers out for a 2 hour lunch and your lucky to get 30mins . Going to the restroom is a luxury.

    Advice to Management

    Run

I worked at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Need a job. Great for resume. Discount.

    Cons

Turnover extremely high. Raises are inadequate for hard working associates. Upper leadership only for themselves no appreciation for folks in the trenches. Oh well leave attitude coming from top leadership.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. People are seeing through your false promises and your turnover proves it even at district manager level.

I have been working at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet for more than a year

    Pros

Employees receive a 20% discount in addition to the the great deals that most products are being sold for. The annual salary for store managers is great and there is potential for annual bonuses based on several store controllable performance indicators. Teamwork is utilized to try to accomplish the heavy demands that are put on the store and in most cases store associates seem to be a close knit team that work well...

    Cons

As a manager, there is little time for life outside of work. Six day work weeks and 15+ hour days are not a seasonal issue, but quite often the norm. Expectations are very high for the minimal payroll that is given to stores. Trucks must be received, processed, and on the floor within 24 hours of arrival, but are almost always late or rescheduled. The associates are expected to change their schedule almost daily with...

    Advice to Management

Store managers (over 800) are required to attend a meeting twice a year in Pennsylvania where flights, hotels, meals, and activities are paid for by the company. Each meeting goes over the exact same things and no one really takes away anything they can use to impact the store's productivity or profitability. The expense for these meetings is astronomical, yet stores that are 45,000 square feet and larger are expected...

I worked at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working with the team and inspiring them. Working with the customers and making sure they were happy. Upselling was always fun! Learning from experienced Managers.

    Cons

Ollie's is growing way to fast for themselves. They seem to not be unable to keep up with their own demands. They did not take care of their employees at all.

    Advice to Management

Communication is key, having too many managers telling you different things about the same thing is out of control. Ollie's really needs to take care of the people, they would get more out of them.

I worked at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Having freedom to run your business. Creating fun environment within your building. Building your own team. Good place to learn and build on skills then move on.

    Cons

Work/life balance was a struggle at times. If you enjoy good old fashion hard work and being pushed with projects and programs this is a good fit. No down time, go, go, go. They don't hide the fact it's the " hardest retail job you will have". Put your head down and work! Most any real solution or suggestion you have for corporate to fix problems will get shot down if it doesn't make the company more money. The same...

    Advice to Management

The associates know there is no loyalty. Great managers build a team at there store and drive profits. Really listen and REACT to what managers are telling you. Don't let the buyers do whatever they want and give your dtl's/regionals no control.

    Pros

You can be creative with merchandising. Advancement potential as they are growing company, IF you stay in their good graces.

    Cons

Upper management expects freight out in 24 hrs, which can only happen in rare instances because every item requires a price ticket. Payroll is very tight and cleaning up the store after customers is a never ending battle. The place is dirty, requiring lots of physical labor by everyone with no break in the action. Management also expects Nordstrom cleanliness on a shoestring budget. Very little money is allowed to be...

    Pros

Great discount, great bargains, not much time off because of random deliveries and workload. You never know when you will get stuck unloading a truck and stocking freight extra so good luck at planning any personal life until you are able to hire a competant staff to cover for you.

    Cons

Closeouts are random, can't depend on consistent replenishment to advance sales.

    Advice to Management

Commit to expansion and invest some money in making the company cohesive instead of keeping everyone guessing what's next and missing opportunities to sell more merchandise.
