I have been working at Olo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is a heavy emphasis and investment on employee success that you just don't see at other companies. The management team does a strong job balancing employee success with business needs.

    Cons

Lots of demand in the industry which sometimes puts strain on resources. Typical growing challenges.

    Advice to Management

    Stay true to core values.

    Pros

Almost entirely remote engineering team, *really smart* and caring coworkers, generous PTO and benefits, an emphasis on taking care of your family and yourself

    Cons

Like many 10+ year old companies there's legacy code that has to be maintained. To address this we're porting a lot to .NET Core and modern Ember, which doesn't happen over night!

I have been working at Olo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible work schedule / remote work. Great medical benefits.

    Cons

Too many meetings. Accountability is all over the place. Depending on your ‘status’ at the company, you can get away with not collaborating with your teammates, adhering to zero processes, and talking down to your coworkers. The best part is that, the people that are the most guilty of this, tend to also have the worst output. Coincidence? Additionally, it is very common to be personally trained (yes, another... meeting) about how to do your job as a consequence of ANOTHER teammate’s ignorance / arrogance. This approach to ‘management’ causes most employees to not bother giving feedback or asking questions, since the employee will either, 1) Be ridiculed or 2) Be trained on a skill the employee already has.

    Advice to Management

If you’re serious about having a positive work environment, then all employees need to be fairly treated. It is in no way acceptable to ridicule an employee when he/she is asking questions to gain a better understanding of your convoluted micro services and ever-changing infrastructure. It is no mystery why your company is having issues with turnover.

I have been working at Olo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

CEO is very humble and relatable. Benefits are really good, the core product is even better and is a leader in its industry. There is a valiant effort to maintain a good culture. Individual contributors are often recognized verbally which can be encouraging. Offers many remote opportunities for the right applicants. Though there are cons, the pros do eclipse them and employees churn is low.

    Cons

Resources are all over the place and you better keep up. It is easy to get left behind if you are not collaborating with the obvious preferred vision and opinion. There is more acceptance of cult following than there is support of a differing perspective. HR does a good job of trying to support diversity and inclusivity, but could use refinement without assuming everyone agrees with pop-culture. Sales is a driver... for initiative and can result in broken promises and a frustrating team morale and hard external conversations.

    Advice to Management

Overall, Olo does a good job. Listen to the troops by making a safe and anonymous way to get feedback. Find a safe way to learn about real areas for improvement not openly shared so you can move the needle. Find the right balance between sales and delivery so that all contributors can feel accomplished. Find ways to share with the team what distinguishes those in leadership positions. Tell us what they are doing ... right to paint a picture of what it takes to move up here.

I have been working at Olo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Smart coworkers, great company culture. Exciting product which is fun to see/use in the real world.

    Cons

The company is growing rapidly, inevitably having some growing pains (infrastructure/process related).

    Advice to Management

Be less of a 'feature 'factory'- invest more heavily in paying down tech debt.

I have been working at Olo full-time

    Pros

My career responsibilities and growth have accelerated here. There are lots of opportunities to get involved and bring about positive change in a hands-on way where you can own projects and responsibilities. The people are amazing. They realize people have personal lives outside of work and work/life balance is prioritized, no micromanagement at least on my team, and you are empowered.

    Cons

Some may view change and constant transition as a con, but that is the reality of startup culture. Client demands dominate roadmap so some of the fun stuff is on back shelf.

    Advice to Management

    Keep listening. Prioritize innovation.

    I worked at Olo full-time

    Pros

    - No challenge, you can settle down (yes, it's ironic) - Good equipment that you have to wait for weeks after you started to work (yes, it's ironic too) - Nice location with a lot of food options (it's true) - Nice view from the office

    Cons

    - Absolutely empty dead office - Very slow progress, no challenge, very lazy culture - You can find yourself with a not very skilled arrogant teammate who spent half a year playing with fonts and colours archiving nothing for a month-long project - Don't be surprised if your supervisor will act more like a pre-k teacher than somebody from IT field - No established process, everything is very chaotic - There is... no snacks in the office just water and milk - Too many meetings for a meeting with zero results - Fitbit doesn't make any sense
