I worked at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects as an intern

    Pros

Amazing Experience during the six month internship. Exposed to a variety of project types and project managers.

    Cons

Need to adjust to different managing styles but overall a great way to learn about different types of firm structure and organization.

I worked at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience immersing into the organization but not the experience I would have imagined for such a well established, large upscale firm. Wonderful work produced as well as opportunity to engage. Overall, talented individuals, strong personalities, and always something new to learn. Most are willing to help. There is always someone with the right answer within the firm, don't be afraid to ask lots of critical questions.

    Cons

Not all employees convey the professional and respectful standards the company prides itself on. More project focused than employee focused (very disconnected and impersonal to new hires). Have to work your way up the chain, not always a team atmosphere at times, need to adapt at a fast rate. Be local to work there to be as flexible to to them, flexibility is limited to employees work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Be more receptive to employees and their needs to succeed within the firm. Management style is stagnant, could use a restructure for new hires. Provide more opportunities for networking for employees than enclosing them in a corner to work.

I worked at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great internship experience. The set 6-month timeframe and established internship program meant I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, including installations, residential, and commercial. Great firm culture and close working conditions with other interns.

    Cons

It took awhile to get up to speed and the 6-months were over right when I felt like I was hitting a good stride. You may jump around from project to project as needed. This isn't a big detriment because you get to work on many projects and meet more people, but you might only experience one stage of a project.

    Advice to Management

Good job actively working on firm culture and mentorship. This was a great experience.

    Pros

Project types, quality of work, work culture, people, great events, great lecture series and weekly internal project critique, very collaborative environment, experimental

    Cons

Work/life balance, long hours, pay, entitled, isolates itself from other architectural professionals in the city, no incentive for licensure, short staffed projects

I worked at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are certainly some brilliant designers, and many exciting projects in all corners of the world, but lots of local connections as well. Jim Olson is a treasure. Kegerator was a plus.

    Cons

Pretty toxic, elitist snobbery in some corners of the office. Lots of big ego designs. Plenty of 1% clients, projects that leave you feeling dirty and like a sellout, like part of the problem, not the solution. Ridiculous hiring/firing decisions, full of passive-aggressive, back-stabbing and rampant rumor-milling.

    Advice to Management

Think about the legacy you want to leave. Get rid of the brown-nosing yes-people who haven't added value in a decade. Make the world a *better* place, not just prettier.

I have been working at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Impressive commitment to top level design and sustainability. Interesting projects and interesting people to work with. High level of integrity.

    Cons

Management could be more efficient. Change happens very slowly. Little communication with upper management/partners. Not enough leadership and growth opportunities to go around.

    Advice to Management

Compensate people as highly as your able. Provide more opportunities to mid-level employees wanting to gain experience and rise.

    Pros

There a lot of nice people and the company works on a lot of creative projects.

    Cons

Can be quite political. Their spending of money can be a little erratic and reckless.

    Advice to Management

    Reconsider the company culture.

I worked at Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Team Architecture practiced here. Everyone has a chance to make suggestions about any project at review meetings.

    Cons

Perhaps a little snobbish... "Blue Collar", "Nuts and Bolts" designers have a difficult time achieving.

    Advice to Management

It's been a long time since I worked there. Perhaps the employee review process needed to change.
