I have been working at Olympia Medical Center (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The best Things about this Olympia is that we are a close knit family. You will love the people you work with.

    Cons

Most people don't stay. The turn over is high, the pay is low, the benefits are poor, the quality of care is deplorable due to the high turn over. All employees that were loyal to this hospital and cared about the reputation of this hospital, management either has gotten rid of or they were smart and left on their own. BTW John Calderone is no longer the CEO of this hospital.... sadly.

    Advice to Management

It's not all about business. Try to make some of it about the patients, and the quality of the care and service they are receiving.... might actually work.

I have been working at Olympia Medical Center (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice place to start as an RN and get more experience.

    Cons

8 hours shift, not enough experienced nurses because they are all leaving due to the 8 hours.

    Advice to Management

    change to 12 hours

    Pros

Nice staff. Awesome Doctors. CEO sweet. Nice location, free parking. Close to downtown Los Angeles . Wearing uniforms of your choice .

    Cons

New management brutal. Their Moto was quit if you don't like our changes. 80% of staff quit. They tried to lower your wages or asked you to reapply for the same job. Unsafe . No room for advancement. Not enough supplies.

    Advice to Management

Listening to the staff would allow the hospital to run smoothly. Quit changing directors. Go back to 12hour shifts. Nurses have kids and school to attend. Quit informing the staff that you don't care about us, and to quit . That hospital was awesome before you took over. The community loved the old staff because we were families. Nothing against the new grads.

I worked at Olympia Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They gave quick offers, they don't really care about your majors, as long as you are willing to learn what they want you to learn.

    Cons

Most co-workers are unfriendly, probably because nobody felt happy working here, and most people here are old people, they never listened to you and they resisted to new things and technologies.
Pay rate was way lower than average, and you have to work on-call with no extra pay.
I was told to do stupid and trivial things everyday, none of them are related to what I was interviewed for.
Management was very unorganized, sometimes, you don't realize if he still existed.

    ********************************************
And by the way, I don't really understand, why does an IT guy have to wear a very uncomfortable suit everyday?

    Advice to Management

Please be open minded and nice to people that work for you, treat your employee with actual benefit, and PLZ BUILD BETTER ENTERPRISE CULTURE

I have been working at Olympia Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

First thing I have to say is I've never met such a genuine CEO. He is truly incredible.
Small hospital so everyone is very friendly to be around.

Good place to get your experience.

    Cons

The main reason most people will be leaving here is because they switched there shifts to 8 hour shifts to save money.I've worked at hospitals where they had 12 hour shifts and it was so nice to work your three and do whatever else you wanted the remaining days.

It literally feels like I'm always here working 8 hour shifts!

    Advice to Management

get 12 hour shifts so you can keep your employees, I have rarely heard anyone say that they're not going to leave once they find a 12 hour shift place.

I have been working at Olympia Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Still some nice staff left. The CEO has a great vision for the hospital and loves people and his staff.

    Cons

Alecto took over the hospital and changed the RNs to eight hour shifts. Great nursing staff with the most experience are leaving in droves and are being replaced by new grads. Difficult to get days off. Overall job satisfaction is rapidly declining as well as safe patient care. Lots of staff have been laid off! Rumors of hospital closing!

    Advice to Management

Alecto Act like you care about the employees. Give the RNs their scheduled 12 hour shifts back that they hired in with.

I worked at Olympia Medical Center as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I loved the camaraderie in the lab. I felt welcome from day one by most of my coworkers. This hospital is very patient centered and I loved that, too.

    Cons

A couple of the senior members were a little bit condescending at first, but that is to be expected for an extern who is fresh out of school and only scheduled to be there for two weeks.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest that the extern students not be paired with the senior members, but more with the younger members that have experience
