I have been working at Olympic College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Helping students achieve their goals. Supporting international students as they study in a foreign country. Helping students with career goals.

    Cons

Pay - part-time people never receive an increase in salary. Stressful - trying to do a full-time job in 18 hours/week.

I worked at Olympic College part-time

    Pros

Decent pay for level of work, lot's of downtime to read, do homework, etc, fairly easy job, good management, flexible schedule, lots of autonomy.

    Cons

Can get really monotonous, hours were kind of weird because they were based on class schedules, hours fluctuated a lot between quarters.

    Advice to Management

Not much other than trying to find a good baseline for hours and schedules. Management and coworkers were great.

I worked at Olympic College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Willingness to work with class schedule as needed, plenty of new people to meet, and the tasks were never over demanding. The managing staff was some of the best I'd ever worked for.

    Cons

Capped maximum hours per month, but that was a state level mandate and not their fault.

The managers and supervisors are all fantastic. They will work with your class schedule and genuinely want you to succeed.

    Cons

State agency so lots of red tape.

I have been working at Olympic College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a state job...that's about the only pro. The grounds look well taken care of, have some nice people there

    Cons

Unfair hiring practices, favoritism, and preference for retired people with no families. People in management positions yelling at people with disabilities. If you're not a multi cultural student then you're not considered a person. No sense of community

    Advice to Management

Everyone in administration needs to resign from their positions in order to make room for those that care about people and have an active interest in their employees. Promote your part time people more, hire based off of personal merit rather than a mathematical formula. In other words get in touch with those you manage. Come down off the 5th floor and engage with the people who really run the place... The employees

    Pros

State benefits are quite good. Limited tuition waivers for Olympic College classes, not necessarily job-related, are great if you can use them. Lots to choose from including evening art classes. Lots of quirky, hard-working co-workers. Interesting special events are fairly frequent.

    Cons

State salaries are not very good except information technology or tenured faculty. Raises are small and infrequent. Workloads are unrealistic. Too many of the administrators are workaholics. The main problem with that is the more work they do, the more upper management piles on them. Never enough time to take advantage of the interesting special events.

    Advice to Management

Stop exploiting so many poor part timers, and have pity on overworked full-time staff. Create a more realistic workload for everyone by making more part-time staff full-time. Program assistants are paid way less than they're worth considering the responsibility they shoulder.

I worked at Olympic College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Willing to work to accommodate class schedule when possible. Learned a lot about hiring procedures as well as information about job search resources.

    Cons

There were some very slow days where there wasn't always a lot of work to do, so it could get boring at times. Must pace yourself so you don't finish daily work too fast.

I worked at Olympic College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location, great co-workers and office environment.

    Cons

No raises due to salary freeze the entire 4 years I was there. Upper management and VP's lack communication with employees. Lack of community.

I have been working at Olympic College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours will work around your school schedule. No dress code. A good chance to practice and review classes I've already taken.

    Cons

Many of the tutors are HS running start students, so the level of professionalism is quite low.
