    Pros

Recent changes in benefits are very positive especially lower employee contributions to healthcare and additional sick time, personal holiday, and purchase of PTO - this really helps with work life balance. We are privileged to work in a beautiful office and campus and do meaningful valued work. I think the comments that have been made are from highly tenured individuals that may have experienced times in which business was very very good and required less effort to be successful and may have masked ividual performance issues. Also, when times are good and bonuses, merits, and promotions are extended, people generally don't compain. I think these folks should keep in mind that while times have been a bit tough in the last year and half and some benefits, merit increases, and 401K have been affected in the last year and half, Olympus has not experienced extensive lay offs. Olympus must be doing something right.

    Cons

MBOs need to be realistic and achievable taking into consideration that employees must deliver on their daily job duties, which absorb most of their time.

    Advice to Management

Continue to consider policy changes that would benefit work life balance.

    Pros

Olympus is a successful company with respectful leaders. Disrespectful treatment is not tolerated at any level. The company promotes from within when possible.

    Cons

It is a very formal culture from the dress code to the no eating at your desk policy.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the things that matter and drive business. How people dress, when and where they work and eat do not impact the bottom line. Results matter. Measure people on their output not their outfit.

I have been working at Olympus Corporation of the Americas full-time

    Pros

The company has hired a lot of people in the last year, so there is a good mix of 10+ year employees and newer employees bringing in new ideas. Business has been very good, lots of new development going on and challenging work. There has been a lot of employee training too.

    Cons

No profit sharing but good pay and benefits

I have been working at Olympus Corporation of the Americas full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Olympus Biotech was voted Best Place to Work in 2012 by Business NH Magazine, and it shows! As a new employee I can definitely see why Olympus Biotech won in 2012. The positive culture created over the years had led to a great team environment that encourages learning, innovation, and collaboration. Employees eat lunch together, carpool, and help each other out when needed. Every year Olympus Biotech chooses a Charity to support and this year the employees voted to support the Children’s hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock. Our first event was a potluck fundraiser, as a new employee I wasn’t sure what the turnout would be. When I came into the kitchen the morning of the potluck the counter was filled with crockpots and the fridge was full of Tupperware. I was told the people here are great before I started and now I have seen it firsthand.

    Cons

The nearest mall is over an hour away. Rural area but great for people who like the outdoors.

I worked at Olympus Corporation of the Americas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits were offered and were always changing to suit the needs of the employees. Lean initiative programs worked so well and offered the employees more than participation in their day to day work product.

    Cons

Long commute and little opportunities for career growth. After a while, it became the same old thing everyday. Meanwhile, the business as a whole was buying other companies that were unsuccessful at growth and work force reduction became very present in the last 2 years.

    Advice to Management

Create opportunities inside the company for employees.

I have been working at Olympus Corporation of the Americas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good all around overall experience. Olympus leadership position in the markets it serves far out strips just the GYN market with GyrusACMI.

    Cons

Bigger corporations do not move as fast as ones such as Gyrus. Listening to the field sales force always give a accurate representation on market condition, competition, customer perception and overall mindset of the field.

    Advice to Management

Work with field reps to see the business climate better represented than what can happen in meetings with only a few views.

I worked at Olympus Corporation of the Americas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent work environment, community involvement, almost no company politics, intelligent leaders, high quality products

    Cons

Not as integrated into the global company's R&D as would benefit the success of the Americas business, Japanese leaders placed in American positions may not lead as strongly as the Americas business requires

    Advice to Management

Place more value on the investments you have already made and their ability to bring long term value to the company. This includes assets both tangible and intangible, employees and reputation.
