I have been working at Omnitracs full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Collaborative work environment, better than decent benefits - including commuting assistance, drinkable free coffee, excellent downtown location with lots of local eateries, a jazzed exec team who truly want to be successful, and lots of leaders who are willing to listen and make change, The old regime is gone, and gone with them were lots of the cultural things that people complained about in the past. If... you want to be on the ground floor of a company this is truly transformational, this is where you want to be.

    Cons

Lots of broad-sweeping change isn't always easy to digest quickly; some folks who have been here a while are change adverse. The company has acquired several smaller companies over the past 5 years, and they have been managed much in silos. The cultural change that should have happened after each acquisition was delayed, and happening now all at once. Private equity owned, which means that ownership/corporate... direction could change at any point. Hopefully, should that happen, the new team will stay.

    Advice to Management

Damn the torpedos and full steam ahead! The changes you are making rock! Be sensitive, but do what's best for the masses, and our investors. The rest will either catch up or move on.

    Pros

Fantastic work environment, team is highly collaborative, teammates truly listen to each others feedback, conversations are focused on being customer obsessed.

    Cons

Some complexities related to legacy platforms are challenging - but for those that love problem solving and making a huge difference -- there is a path to excellence.

    Pros

-Good experience for college grads -Experience with technology you couldn't get elsewhere -Dallas office is nice -Easy going work environment

    Cons

-Pay is not competitive -Lied about bonus -High Turnover -Lost most talent due to mismanagement

    Advice to Management

Fake reviews knocked my review from 3 stars to 1. Vista is turn and burn with this company, so there's not much I can do as far as a review other than to warn people from joining something that's going to be sold as soon as possible. When I first joined it seemed like it had potential, but the company quickly started to ruin itself when it didn't keep talent and sell itself(which failed).

I have been working at Omnitracs full-time

    Pros

Relatively relaxed work environment, great people, willingness to innovate and improve legacy products, creative and project management teams have some great talent leading the way.

    Cons

Compensation can be in the middle/lower end of the spectrum, meetings that could be emails are quite frequent and can hinder productivity.

    Advice to Management

Invest in hiring/retaining top level talent, keep pushing towards innovation, increase transparency slightly in regards to future products & initiatives.

I worked at Omnitracs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - great if you are looking for a "lifestyle job" - they have innovated by updating the ivory tower concept. It is now just their 14th floor - Dallas employees can expect a nice work environment and perks. Remote offices should not expect that.

    Cons

    - the only career progression you should expect is if you are an entry level employee looking to make it to an entry level +1 career level - the exec team doesn't even know how to articulate the good things in a way that actually connects with the front line. Cost of living adjustments offered every 18 months don't keep pace with inflation, and are packaged as "merit increases". In other words, kick butt and your... real wages won't decrease if you are a top performer. The forced bell curve ensures only 20% will see that. - while bonuses get missed year after year due to "performance", the exec vesting schedule for the top 5-8 continues unabated, and they will continue to tell you how everything is great, and working, and just like they planned. Just not...how they planned for your bonus to be paid. - the concept of “empowerment” is something you will want to forget if you work here. You will get “accountability” without autonomy.

    Advice to Management

    - engage. Meaningfully. Several C Suite members couldn't tell you the first thing about the personal lives of their direct reports (spouse? Kids? Hobbies?), let alone coach and enable their growth. - you need to make the corporate goals more tangible and attainable at a individual and departmental level. The system today is horrible and breeds distrust. It’s hard to hear how great everything is when bonuses... are paid out at 40%. - people rise or fall to your expectations. The multiple approval processes, controls and “desks” simply show the org that you don’t trust their decision making and they shouldn’t try. The implicit message here is that nobody is allowed to innovate or make a decision. When you can’t make decisions, you aren’t really invested in the outcome. When you aren’t invested...you disengage. When your employees are disengaged...you get 25%+ turnover. Own the root cause.

    I worked at Omnitracs full-time

    Pros

Flexible work environment. WFH when needed. PTO and holidays are comparable.

    Cons

Staff are not given the tools/training they need to do their jobs. Career development is non-existent unless you are in Product Development. The company is highly disjointed (Omni Dallas vs Sylectus vs Roadnet). The Sales teams DO NOT work together dispite tremendous effort from non-Omni VPs. The culture in general DOES NOT put emphasis on the employee. Pay is very low for the higher positions.

    Advice to Management

Create a culture where the employ feels appreciated. Allow for career development. Put the right people in the right upper level positions (Sales/Marketing VPs, CSO, CMO)

    Pros

Excellent work environment ascetically. Good base pay based on experience. HR department brings innovative positive attributes.

    Cons

Company processes are cumbersome and seldom work smoothly (Salesforce) Some managers lack professionalism and leadership skill sets to the point of being disruptive to the companies goals.

    Advice to Management

Leadership training to all managers quarterly.

I have been working at Omnitracs full-time

    Pros

The industry is interesting and there is plenty to learn working here. The company is large enough that there are some perks such as discount programs, Lynda.com access, and more. The work environment is reasonably flexible. There are talented people who work here. Information sharing with other Vista companies is encouraged and it makes for a greater learning opportunity. There are noteworthy customers who are... happy and enjoy using the products.

    Cons

If you look at the gold standards of the company, most seem to stem from the acquired companies. But while developers and many employees of acquired companies are the brains of this company, they seem to be largely undervalued. Most people in the main office are brand new to the industry and company. Looking at the different offices, it's very disjointed. It is 2017 and this should not be so difficult. The sales... organization is flawed. Big changes occur regularly and it appears as though little strategic and long-term thought is behind it all. For example, growing the sales team without growing marketing, as well. The marketing department is disappearing and nobody wants to talk about it. Sales isn't getting nearly the amount of support it needs from that shrinking team. Executive leadership is a mixed bag of individuals who are knowledgeable and care and individuals who seem to not really know what's going on or understand the full line of products. Too much focus on entry-level (cheap) employees. Managers spend way too much time trying to train them on how to be employees in the working world--and work suffers. Even though the environment is pretty flexible, working remotely seems to still be a futuristic concept here. There are multiple offices with many people working from different places but many managers still frown upon remote work. The other Glassdoor reviews that talk about lack of bonuses and raises because of unrealistic goals--add that to this list. Same goes for the PTO policy changes and embarrassing communication about it. Communication in general is poor here. HR/Corporate Comms does not send enough emails. Maybe because there have been so many issues with the emails they've sent in the past.

    Advice to Management

Stop and think about positions that are being filled. We are in dire need of more hands but so many new hires are entry level and not valuable to teams. Communicate more regularly with employees and be honest. We can see through things more than you think. Fix the sales organization. Don't neglect people outside of corporate HQ. Try to consider the full product line instead of focusing on "classic"... Omnitracs most of the time. Understand that higher pay and new companies moving to Dallas are not the only reasons people are quitting left and right. The culture, communication, work overload, lack of strategic direction, and leaders or managers without a clue all contribute to this. Attrition is only going to continue if many of these giant issues are not addressed soon.

    Pros

Benefits, flexible schedule, collaborative work environment, strong and transparent leadership, beautiful office with great views, great people with strong work ethic make up the core employment pool.

    Cons

If you cannot use the employer-paid DART pass, parking is very expensive. A portion is paid for by the company.

    Advice to Management

Continued education and more obvious updates on our new products would be very helpful for most employees.
