I worked at Omron Scientific Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This small group of people works extremely well in quality of service, ability to serve the customer, and efficiency.

Craige Wille, the GM at the time I was there is a great man who loves to encourage growth in his employees.

    Cons

The quote building process was a bit of a hassle when digitizing hand written drawings from field technicians. The communication and consistency was lacking.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, it was a pleasure working for you! My only desire is that there be more standardization in terms/techniques when drawings are submitted to the team to build into the quotes.

I have been working at Omron Scientific Technologies full-time

    Pros

Have a diligent employees but there aren't many left.

    Cons

Unless you know how to play politics, and say 'yes' to the president, otherwise you won't get recognized. We have someone here to doesn't know her job, doesn't know anything but 'yes'.. and she got the big pay increase with a nice title.. She can be a good secretary though.

    Pros

    Relaxed atmosphere and friendly people.

    Cons

There were no raise for years. Salary and benefit package are not up to par for Silicon Valley high tech companies.

    Pros

OK company, very friendly manager. Work can be slow depending on which project. Salary is ok. Work atmosphere is family friendly. Working hours are quite ok and standard.

    Cons

Benefits can be improved. 401k matching is horrible. Choices of 401k funds are really bad. HR can be more friendly and egocentric. Work environment is quite bad.

    Advice to Management

Rennovate the place. Pay your long time staff better. Better decisions more transparent and suitable. Do not overwork people for nothing.

I have been working at Omron Scientific Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Well developed staff with long tenure. Opportunities to learn as the business changes. Great opportunity to grow, if you are interested in having responsibility.

    Cons

Confusing guidance from HQ in Japan. Visiting employees from other countries are interesting to work with, but seldom actually provide progress. The confusion results in things like 5 year plans that seem to change every few months.

    Advice to Management

The local management has to understand the guidance and targets from Japan, so that they can guide the rest of us. The management in Japan should make more effort to assure that their projects are truly global. This would include having GOOD translations of Japanese documents for the local organizations.

I have been working at Omron Scientific Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Well established company, combining both a family culture from its origins while belonging to the bigger OMRON company. Opportunity to work with very talented individuals. Very interesting product development.

    Cons

As anywhere, cutting edge development is challenging and not for the faint of heart. Finding the balance between the Silicon Valley mentality and the big corporation management style can be tricky.

    Pros

Small company environment in East Bay, near Dumbarton Bridge in North Fremont. Hard work and tenacity pays off. Currently undergoing management changes and new leadership. Very low turnover, many very long term employees, loyal and dedicated to making this company the top Automation Safety Company in the Americas. Change can be good!

    Cons

Currently undergoing changes in management, leadership, and company focus. Moving into new areas of Factory Automation and Safety, strong leaders bring changes that are not always seen as the best thing for some parts of the company.

I worked at Omron Scientific Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to develop skills. Colleagues are quite pleasant. Company, in general, is supportive of employee's work-life balance and emergencies so long as you are not on critical path. Very stable employment for many positions. Good insurance packages.

    Cons

Oppressive upper management. Almost 100% turnover of software group in two years (engineers, not management). Excessive and meaningless process overhead that does not improve the safety, reliability, or efficacy of Omron products. Many employees have not had a raise in more than ten years. Salaries are low, about 75% of market rates in the area.

    Advice to Management

Treat your lower-level R&D people with more respect. If you don't, now that the job market has improved, you may find yourself without an R&D department at all.

    Cons

It's a sweatshop...your sole reason for existence there is to do work that software manager doesn't want to do so you can advance his career

    Advice to Management

    time for new leadership?
