I have been working at OneWest Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company matches your 401(k) contributions 100% up to 4%. The company is relatively small which offers a lot of opportunity to get recognized.

    Cons

The company places too much emphasis on sales campaigns as opposed to the deepening of client relationships. The latter is stated to be their primary motivation, but weekly prospect and sales goals tend to overwhelm and override this as a realistic endeavor.

    Advice to Management

Less emphasis on campaigns and more on deepening meaningful relationships. Quarterly growth measures stellar short-term performance, but offering more products, especially on the mortgage and business side which are currently lacking, will ensure long-term durability for the bank, prolonged customer satisfaction, and a more diverse work environment for retail employees.

I have been working at OneWest Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Training, the learning and development dept do an exceptional job of training its employees. Higher pay for the title however much higher workload for the pay.

    Cons

No work life balance , unorganized institution , not getting paid on time , not getting paid for certain hours due to management and the companies inability to organize itself. The systems are outdated, the computers are extremely slow. We outsource all of our business referrals. Our HR dept consist of one individual per district sometimes it takes a week to talk to someone. I do not recommend this company at all. Coming from a much larger bank this was a culture shock and it just got worse and worse. The pay is above average for a personal banker but the work load is 5x's more then a top bank Wells Fargo , BOFA, chase etc. we have endless paperwork to complete on a daily basis . Horrible incentive plan

    Advice to Management

Pay employees on time , expand the HR dept , update the systems , have less paperwork to do when opening a simple deposit account.

I have been working at OneWest Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only pros is having benefits from this place.

    Cons

If your looking to grow in this company you can just don't expect to get a pay increase unless you move up to managment. If you start at a teller position and you move on up to the next teller level you won't get a pay increase so you will be working harder, have more responsibilities, and get more stress for the same pay. As far as being a relationship associate you will be doing the same money market campaign every quarter. The only thing they change is the name of the campaign. They only focus on existing clients to bring in new money and not trying to bring in new clients. So Onewest bank only cares about themselves and not the employees nor the clients.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees better with pay increases when they move up a level and not give them more work, responsibilities, and stress for the same pay and change the campaign once in a while not just the same money market campaign every quarter with just a different name and then all the employees can be happy when they come to work and not thinking about quitting.

I worked at OneWest Bank (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good place to gain default mortgage industry experience for those new to the industry.
I found it quite easy, at the time, to progress in a career path at OWB.

    Cons

Uncertain future throughout the sale process.

    Advice to Management

Management has changed at this point, so I can't offer anything particularly useful.

I have been working at OneWest Bank (Less than a year)

    Pros

Newer bank, but that's a drawback as well. Chance to make a mark possibly? Chance to clean up messy situations created by incapable Liberal Arts majors who attended watered-down MBA programs and don't know how to use Excel properly?

    Cons

Disorganized management, little to no info regarding the future of the group, bank, or merger status. Favoritism/Nepotism is rampant. Most employees are looking to skate through their jobs, especially upper to middle management, which leverage outside of work commitments to gain time away from the office.

    Advice to Management

Provide a training program that is actually meaningful and useful. Provide information to employees about the direction and status of the groups.

I worked at OneWest Bank full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Technology and exposure to work with senior leadership teams - learning opportunities

    Cons

Downsizing led to increase workload /responsibilities with no increase in pay or opportunity for career growth within company . I took the experience I gained from OWB and got a job making $20k more.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge the contributions of your teams and provide fair compensation for the worth/contributions. Good employees are easily recru item to other companies.
