    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I worked at Onondaga Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy to get classes to teach. Pretty easy commute if you live in the city of Syracuse.

    Cons

Bad winters. Severe lack of preparation when you're first hired. This school feels like a dumping ground for students who can't afford another school or who have had academic trouble, and it's definitely not the students' fault. I hardly got to know anyone in my department because most teachers just come to teach their classes and then they leave. There's no real sense of community. They wait until the last minute to do everything. It'll be August and they'll call you to beg you to teach more classes. This place needs a clean sweep of the administration, and this is exactly why I don't work here anymore. There is no room to improve or to change your position.

    Advice to Management

    Do better.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Onondaga Community College part-time

    Pros

    Positive environment
Excellent coworkers (for the most part)

    Cons

    Minimal room for growth
Like in all customer service positions, some students/parents are simply unbearable

    Advice to Management

Rather than creating numerous part time positions with unlivable pay/lack of benefits, reward a smaller amount of positions in order to keep motivated young talent on campus.

    Pros

Good access to all resources necessary for teaching. Good Orientation for new adjunct faculty. Lots of freedom for curriculum design and evaluation methods.

    Cons

Only con would be that I wasn't given enough time to prepare, only 2 weeks for a course I had never taught before.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Opportunity for growth, campus is changing and offering opportunities for staff to get involved with faculty.

    Cons

Two separate entities working as one (housing is privatized) can pose some difficulties with budgets, spaces on campus, campus involvement & inclusion.
