I have been working at Onondaga County full-time

    Pros

Good pay in the water environment protection department. Benefits are good and rated appropriately at the moment.

    Cons

Poor management and prices of insurance are expected to increase in the near future. Long hours and shift work can be very difficult.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what the people in the department have to say no matter how low their title or pay is. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

    Cons

    Pros

The hours are good, mostly week days with occasional weekend. All holidays off, good benefits and paid vacation.

    Cons

There is hardly any chance for promotions, it is civil service, and the individuals that do get promoted are not always the ones that deserve it. It is very political, so every year work tends to increase, positions decrease, but there is little incentive. The standard of living raises that we get in our union contract do very little, since cost of benefits increases along with everything else, so sometimes you do not make more but less. Low overall morale, some bad management, and favorism.

    Advice to Management

See above- happy workers= better attitudes, increased production
Employees would be more willing to work harder for a little incentive. It's not the job that burns people out but the treatment and dispensible attitude from upper management.
